ACMHAI December Membership Meetings

Thanks to everyone that attended the December Membership Meetings held December 7 and 8 in Schaumburg, Illinois (and virtually by Zoom). 

 

The two-day meeting kicked off Thursday with a networking luncheon followed by a Best Practice Training on "Mental Health Boards: Becoming a Powerful Force by Improving Children's Wellbeing." Dr. Brenda Huber, PhD with Our Children's Future, provided an interactive training that included ideas and recommendations for collaborating across sectors to improve children’s mental health in their communities. Friday's Business Meeting included a training by attorneys with Zukowski, Rogers, Flood & McArdle on Board Governance. Attorneys Brandy Quance and Brad Stewart provided an overview of important information, board member's role, board procedures, the Open Meetings Act, FOIA, and other guidance information. The ACMHAI Standing Committees provided a written and oral report of recent activities during Friday's Business Meeting. Click here to view the report which was also included in the meeting packet.

ACMHAI Honors Retiring Members


During Thursday's networking luncheon, ACMHAI President Lynn Canfield presented Ron Melka, Executive Director of the Lyons Township Mental Health Commission and Christine Myers, Executive Director of the Livingston County Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Boards with ACMHAI Lifetime Achievement Awards. The Awards were presented to honor Ron and Chris for their dedication and service to ACMHAI. They were also presented with Senate Resolutions to congratulate them on their upcoming retirement and express their gratitude for their service, leadership, and contributions to behavioral health.


Ron and Chris will be deeply missed! We wish them all the best in their future endeavors!

Psychiatric Advance Directives: Empowering Control Over Mental Healthcare


The presentation will provide information on specifics of various psychiatric advance directives/legal designations, with particular focus on the topic of increasing utilization of Psychiatric Advance Directives (Declarations for Mental Health Treatment). POA, PADS, and Guardianship will be discussed. Information will also be provided on the current systems for involuntary commitment/treatment, current PAD utilization and research, and current systems barriers to effective utilization.

ACMHAI Ad Hoc Bylaws Review Committee


During the Business Meeting on December 8th, the ACMHAI Membership approved Phase I Bylaws Amendments as distributed in November. These Amendments were part of a two-phase process.

 

Phase II will include a more in-depth review to ensure our Bylaws reflect current Association operations. We are seeking interested members to serve on a short-term Ad Hoc Bylaws Review Committee. The Committee will meet from January 2024 to March 2024 in order to prepare Phase II Amendments for presentation to membership at the April 2024 membership meetings.
