Harnessing Halloween to Help Youth
When Billy Stapleton sees a need, he leaps in to help. We’re thankful Billy decided to turn his annual Halloween display into a food- and fund-raiser for the Power Center , an ACMHS street outreach and drop-in center program serving transition age youth. Billy raised more than $1500 and 400 pounds of food for our youth -- plus tons of warm winter clothing. He plans to do it again next year, and is already full of new ideas to increase donations.
Want to follow Billy's lead & Support ACMHS this holiday season?
  • Bring shelf-stable, canned or prepared food to the Power Center, November 27. (Our center will be closed for 4 days for the long weekend. That's a long time for some of our youth who may get their only hot meal of the day at the Power Center. Let's send them home with some good food for the holiday weekend!) 704 W 26th, drop off 11/27, 1 to 3 pm
  • Donate cooking supplies at the Power Center (pots & pans, spatulas, kitchen knives, ladles, silverware, baking sheets)
  • Host a giving Tuesday fundraiser for ACMHS, the Power Center at Alaska Youth Advocates, Alaska Seeds of Change or FCMHS on December 3, 2019
  • Make an end of year donation to ACMHS - you can specify which program you'd like to support.
Expanding Child & Family Capacity!
Our new Fairbanks Child & Family Clinic building opened in October and is quickly filling up with staff and clients. Since expanding, we have hired 3 new Child & Family clinicians in Fairbanks. The Aspen building has dedicated groups rooms for art, music and other activities, as well as much-needed indoor shop space for our maintenance crew. Clinic hours are Monday-Friday, 8 am to 6 pm -- and on a typical afternoon during after school hours, it is hopping! Call 907-371-1300 for more info.

In Anchorage, our early childhood clinicians have capacity to see more families for Child Parent Psychotherapy and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy for ages 2 to 7. Call 907-762-8667 for more information.
The Rise programs helps clients build confidence and overcome challenges in their job searches. Employment specialists assist with resumes, coordinate mock interviews, and offer basic computer training skills for clients.
Mission Moment: Vocational Program Success Stories
Last month, we shared Walter's successful journey to employment. Other clients in the Rise vocational program chime in with their appreciation: "They [employment specialists] provided a number of avenues to explore for employment that I had not previously considered, and encouragement following setbacks, while always remaining mindful of my particular goals, interest and desires." As another said, "I would highly recommend anyone to the program if they feel stuck. " Learn more about vocational services
Meet Our Staff: Kensey Dye
Kensey has worked at FCMHS for five years, mostly as a Clinical Associate on the Adult team. She particularly likes working with younger adult clients in their 20’s who are experiencing their first mental breakdown, because the process of helping them learn to cope is very fulfilling.

Evie's Brinery: Now supporting Alaska Seeds of Change
Alaska Seeds of Change has been supplying Evie's brinery with herbs for their fermented goodies for the last few years. Now staff at Seeds have taken on production of Alaska Kimchi, Ginger Citrus Carrots and the other Evie's products you've come to know and love. That means every time you purchase a jar of Evie's, you're supporting our programming at Alaska Seeds of Change. At Seeds, we provide youth with on-the-job vocational training in our indoor hydroponic farm and in a licensed commercial kitchern but we also know that youth can't be successful if their other needs aren't met. So we offer mental health services and the Power Center on site , to connect youth to resources for housing, health care and food. We're excited to continue Evie's legacy of making delicious food in service to our community.
If you're shopping at Amazon this holiday season, remember to use smile.amazon.com and choose Anchorage Community Mental Health Services, Inc. as your charity.
