From Scrubs to Sneakers: Our ACMS Physicians Go the Distance

Photo taken from: DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Facebook/Instagram Page

We are proud to share that our ACMS member Dr. Anthony Kovatch completed the Pittsburgh Marathon this past weekend—earning not just a finisher’s medal but also a well-deserved moment in the spotlight! Though Dr. Kovatch is already a highly active and valued member of ACMS, this accomplishment adds yet another impressive chapter to his story. We asked him to share his experience!!

"After running "too many to count" marathons since I started running in middle age, as well as repeatedly covering the Kids Marathon for medical journals, I ironically and almost miraculously finally received the "15 minutes of fame" that Pittsburgh native and artistic icon Andy Warhol claims we all deserve! Running dead last for the second half of the race, I was trailed by a motorcade of police cars and ambulances almost at my heels. This attention and the name on my bib "Slow Tony" and the lucky number on my bib - 711 - made me the recipient of the endless cheers and high-fives of spectators! I felt like my dismally slow running made me a celebrity and hometown hero - at least for a fleeting moment in time!"

~Anthony Kovatch, MD

If you also completed the marathon yesterday, and want to share your experience, we'd love to hear from you!! We are working on a piece for the upcoming bulletin. Email your photos and your "experience story" to Haley Thon - hthon@acms.org or send us a DM on Instagram @alleghenycountyms.
