A September to Remember

Physicians have one of the highest suicide rates of any profession. It is a startling statistic that many are not aware of. This month, the ACMS acknowledged this trend through our awareness campaign “Putting Self-Care in Healthcare”. We provided various ways to help physicians recognize when they need to stop, rest, and focus on the basics. Our initiative offered a variety of local discounts for physicians and healthcare workers to encourage them to prioritize rest, hydration, exercise, food, friends, and fun.

We hoped to create a bridge of connection, show empathy, and have fun. While we recognize that discounts and giveaways won’t solve the problem of physician burnout, we hope it is a starting point for a continued conversation on ways that our community and the ACMS can continue to support physicians.

We are wrapping up our campaign this week! Consider joining us for our wrap-up event on September 30th at Orangetheory Fitness East End for a 90-minute class from 6-7:30 pm.  Email Melanie Mayer to register. Additionally, we’ll be giving away our grand prize at the end of the month. One way to win, is simply by renewing your ACMS/PAMED membership by 9/30.

Visit us on social media or our website to revisit all the discounts that were highlighted in September. And be sure to click here to view the "Thank You” video message from Governor Tom Wolf.

What have we been up to?

On September 24, 2022, the Direct Care Physicians of Pittsburgh and ACMS hosted a CME event. The focus was a review of primary care procedure and skills. Simple laceration repair, splinting, joint injections, along with lifestyle medicine and yoga made up the day.

Thank you to Dr. Lin and Dr. Gentile for a great event!

On Sept. 22 – 24, the ACMS took part in Duquesne University’s Inaugural Fritzky Family Integrative Health Summit. Co-hosted by Duquesne University’s proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine and Duquesne’s Center for Integrative Health, this multi-disciplinary Summit had the goal of connecting healthcare practitioners and professionals who are dedicated to improving patient care and defining the future of integrative health.

ACMS Executive Director, Sara Hussey summarized the event in a recent blog post on ACMS Insights.
