PAMED’s First Hybrid House of Delegates Meeting was a Success!

After two years of providing the House of Delegates (HOD) meeting virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, PAMED offered the 2022 HOD Meeting in a hybrid format. It proved to be an excellent experience, with PAMED members across the state having an opportunity to affect policy.

The Allegheny County Medical Society is pleased to announce Todd M. Hertzberg, MD, FACR as the newly elected 2022 Speaker of the Pennsylvania Medical Society House of Delegates.

Dr. Hertzberg has most recently served as Vice Speaker of the House of Delegates and has been in this position since 2019. He has been a front-line leader in organizing the virtual House of Delegates during Covid and continued to put his expertise to use in arranging a hybrid session for 2022 to accommodate all delegates who wish to participate – in person or virtual.

A member of the American Institute of Parliamentarians, Dr. Hertzberg is well versed in parliamentary procedure. He is your voice, committed to assuring a dynamic forum for engaging discussion, deliberation and policy formation for our PAMED House of Delegates. He is a home-grown, Pittsburgh bred physician focused on creating meaningful change on a legislative level.

Congratulations, Dr. Hertzberg! Here he is pictured below with The Allegheny County Medical Society Executive Director Sara Hussey.

DR. NATALIE GENTILE (34)

Founder, CEO, Direct Care Physicians of Pittsburgh

Is there any advice for the next generation of physicians rising?

Yes! Don’t settle for anything less than what fuels your inner fire. You put in so much time, passion, money, and emotional stress to become a physician. So the job you choose after all of that training should ideally fuel your inner fire. If the job itself can’t do that, then make sure to prioritize your interests and self-care outside of work so you never lose sight of “you”.

More to come in our November Bulletin.

DR. MALLORY STRICKLAND CIUKSZA (36)

Internist, St. Clair Health System

What inspired you to choose medicine for your career path?

My experience with medicine in my early life was very personal. My mother was a hospice nurse, and when I was 9 years old, my 2-year-old sister was diagnosed with a glioblastoma. She went through surgery, chemo, and radiation and subsequently developed leukemia. I had the opportunity to be her bone marrow donor prior to her death a few weeks before I started college, which was a defining experience in my life. Anyone who has experienced the day-to-day trauma of having and loved one with cancer understands how much you want to help and how helpless you often feel.
