Carlos A. Zarate, Jr., M.D.
ACNP President

Hi all---
While it may seem like we just had the 2021 ACNP meeting, we are—amazingly—already gearing up for the ACNP 61st Annual Meeting this December in Phoenix, Arizona. Our volunteers, Committees, Council, and Executive Council members have been hard at work developing new plans and initiatives and putting together a truly outstanding scientific meeting.

Allyship - It's Really Not
Complicated
Sarah Timm, CAE, CMP-HC
ACNP Executive Director
Allyship has become a popular buzz word in the past few years. When I first learned of the concept, I watched from the sidelines as many stated they were an ally to women or to the LGBTQ+ community, but I often failed to see action. I think many people consider themselves allies, but often forget that Allyship is not solely a noun. Allyship is a verb - it must demonstrate action.

NPP is seeking submissions for Early Career Commentaries!
NPP has launched a new article format, the Early Career Commentary, to provide a platform for trainees and early-stage investigators (ESIs) to share their ideas and perspectives. All authors must be trainees or ESIs. This requirement provides a venue for new voices to publish their ideas independently of mentors or senior colleagues.
If the inquiry gets accepted, authors will be invited to submit the full article, after which the

The project aims are to provide a “face” to science, establish importance of a specific area of research, highlight the role of animal research in the study, and offer insights on how science is conducted.
BRAD is looking for more scientists to highlight, and encourage you to nominate an animal researcher you know (including postdoctoral fellows) using this signup link
Guidance is provided to scientists on how to shape their message for the public, and more information about the program is available upon request.

Congressional Neuroscience Caucus Briefing
The Long-Haul Neurological and Psychological Impacts from COVID-19
On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, the American Brain Coalition (ABC) joined the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP), and the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) in cooperation with the Congressional Neuroscience Caucus, to co-host a virtual congressional briefing addressing Long-Haul Neurological and Psychological Impacts of COVID-19 and the Brain. The briefing featured opening remarks by Representative Earl Blumenauer and Representative Cathy McMorris Rogers, co-chairs of the Congressional Neuroscience Caucus, along with two expert speakers who have been conducting and following the research emerging on Long COVID along with a patient advocate who provided a firsthand account of the devastating neurological manifestations of Long COVID. Lori McMahon, Ph.D., Government & Publications Affairs Committee Chair for the Society of Neuroscience, moderated the session.
The bipartisan Congressional Neuroscience Caucus promotes a better understanding of how the brain develops, functions, and ages. Co-chaired by Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Representative Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), the caucus seeks to raise awareness about the millions of Americans afflicted with neurological disorders or mental illnesses. The American Brain Coalition has teamed up with the Congressional Neuroscience Caucus in hosting and organizing events that focus on neuroscience.
The College partnered with the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) to select distinguished young scientists from the 2021 Travel Award class to be part of SfN's Annual Hill Day event. Any interested 2021 Travel Awardees were asked to submit a statement of interest in public service or advocacy, a statement of their experience volunteering in governmental education efforts, advocacy outreach or elections as well as an updated C/V for review by both the chairs of the Education and Training Committee and Liaison Committee.
The following distinguished young scientists from the 2021 Travel Award class attended the virtual Hill Day events on March 22-24, 2022. The attendees shared with the College what the SfN Hill Day events meant to them.
