ACORN Hires New Executive Director
ACORN's Board of Directors is excited to announce that Lindsey Berk has been hired as its new Executive Director. First hired in August 2015 as ACORN's Director of Marketing and Development, Lindsey has been dedicated to strengthening the Champlain Valley's local food system ever since.

In addition to managing ACORN's website and daily communications, Lindsey has been instrumental in managing key ACORN projects including the Farmacy Food as Medicine program, the Local Food and Farms Guide and the Tour de Farms.

Since last March's COVID-19 shutdown, Lindsey has been dedicated to moving the printed Guide online. Along with a small group of Middlebury College developers and designers, Lindsey is excited to launch the new Eat Local VT app which will officially go live to the public next week (ACORN readers can download the app now in the Apple app store and Google Play store - any and all feedback is welcomed).

Prior to working with ACORN, Lindsey and her husband, Matt, launched a small tourism business focused on the Origins of Food, and were program leaders for experiential education programs in Guatemala and Peru. Lindsey also spent seven years working in the corporate advertising and PR world in NYC and Washington, DC - an experience she is grateful to have, and to have left.

Lindsey would like to express her gratitude to ACORN's 2020-2021 community of donors and the following sponsors who continue to make ACORN's work possible during the pandemic:

Please email Lindsey if you'd like to collaborate on any local food and farming initiatives in the future!

This app was developed in conjunction with Middlebury College’s MiddDev student club and ACORN. It is sponsored by Cooperative Insurance.

We gratefully accept financial support in the form of gift cards to Hannaford or Middlebury Co-op, or through Venmo.

We are also always delighted to welcome new cooks!

New definition of local food as of Jan. 1 Previously, the term “local” applied to food that originated in Vermont or within 30 miles of the point of sale. The new definition says that “local” and/or “Vermont” unprocessed (raw) fruits and vegetables must be exclusively grown in Vermont.

Processed foods, including fruits and vegetables, are “local” and/or “Vermont” food if: 1) The majority of ingredients (more than 50% by volume, excluding water) are raw agricultural products that are “local” to Vermont; and the product was either processed in Vermont or the food
manufacturer is headquartered in Vermont (or both). Visit the Agency of Ag's website for more details.
