Environmental Scans: A Worksheet for CCC Coalitions
If your comprehensive cancer control coalition is just beginning to address lung cancer screening, a key preparatory step is to conduct an environmental scan. An environmental scan, or landscape analysis, is a way to get a “lay of the land” of current lung cancer initiatives in your state/tribe/territory. You can identify what partners are already engaged -- and who you still need at the coalition table to effect change. It can provide a framework for gathering existing lung cancer data to inform program planning decisions and outline key data you still need.
This ACS CCC-developed worksheet walks you through the environmental scanning process with guiding questions and action steps that will ensure you avoid duplicating partner efforts, help identify opportunities that could make a difference, and provide the foundation that you need to begin your lung cancer initiatives.

ACS National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable
Launches CRC Data Dashboard
We are excited to announce the release of the ACS NCCRT’s latest resource: the CRC Data Dashboard. This new mapping tool offers an interactive geospatial view of data pertaining to colorectal cancer in the United States. The dynamic national platform integrates layers from multiple sources and allows you to interactively explore data using maps and graphs, including:
- CRC surveillance data (incidence rates, mortality rates)
- CRC screening rates
- Healthcare settings (Commission on Cancer hospitals, Federally Qualified Health Centers, National Cancer Institute Designated Cancer Centers)
- Demographics (age, race and Hispanic origin, poverty status, educational attainment)
- Additional health measures (smoking prevalence, obesity)
These maps can be used by researchers, public health professionals, policymakers, and others to understand and illustrate the burden of colorectal cancer in communities across the United States and assist in planning and tailoring interventions.
