A Place for Your Children
Yesterday morning, Mrs. Van Oordt led staff devotions. She read the line from the Christmas story in Luke 2:7 that says there was no room for them in the Inn. She talked about how Mary and Joseph were likely tired, scared, and anxious from their trip and their situation. But, after the innkeeper told them there was no room, he thought more and decided there was room for them, and the space may be enough for what they needed. Indeed, there was a place for these tired and anxious travelers.
Mrs. Van Oordt then shared information about teacher shortages nationwide and a new statistic that says only 26% of teachers in a recent survey would recommend the teaching profession to a friend or colleague. Those are shocking statistics, but are a reality in education. But, in a field that is struggling to find teachers, we are blessed by the amazing team of teachers that love kids so deeply at ACS. Mrs. Van Oordt challenged us and reminded us about the great opportunity we have at ACS to find a place for your (HIS) children. We know that many students enter our doors with lots of joy and excitement for the day. We also know that many enter like Mary and Joseph might have felt - anxious and tired. In this Christmas season, and all year at ACS, we are eager to show kids that they have a place at ACS, that they are loved, and that they are a child of God.
Thank you for your partnership and for allowing our team to provide a place for your kids! Blessings to your family as you journey through this season and celebrate the birth of the King.
I am providing a reminder regarding Birthday parties. Birthday parties are a fun and exciting event for students. It is so much fun to see kids getting excited when they get to celebrate their birthdays with friends. However, these parties can cause a lot of hurt for those not invited, especially if most of the kids in the class are invited and a few are left out. Please see the reminders below regarding parties:
- If having a birthday party, try to invite all the kids of your child's gender from their classroom, or just invite a small group. Please don't exclude just a couple kids.
- If inviting a small group, please consider sending invites by mail or phone. Please avoid bringing the invitations to school (if at all possibly). In ParentsWeb, you have access to the school directory with all family addresses and phone numbers.
- If your child is invited to a party, it is best that they don't ask everyone in class if they were invited or share the details of the party with those that did not attend. This is often how the kids who are not invited find out about the parties, and feel left out.
On Monday, December 16, ACS will be performing their annual Christmas concert
for family and friends. This is a great way for us all to kick off the Christmas season and for the students to show you what they have learned so far this year in their music classes. It will take place at Ceglarek Fine Arts Center (Allendale Public Fine Arts Center) at 6:30 pm. Below is a message from Mr. Koetje about this year’s concert! If you have any questions contact Miss Brummel
ACS families - The students and Miss Brummel are so excited to present the Christmas
concert on December 16! It is so awesome to be able to worship with so many people and celebrate
the birth of our Savior. If you have been to the program the past couple of years, you have noticed that we have run out of seating with our rapid enrollment growth. This year, again, we added many new families and students. With limited seating available,
we are requesting that families try to keep attendance to parents, siblings, and grandparents (great-grandparents included).
We understand there might be a situation where someone else might need to come in place of these immediate family members, but we do not want to make immediate family members stand or not be able to observe the program because we have run out of seats. Thank you for your help!
The Jingle Bell Post Office is Back!
Beginning Thursday, December 5, the 2nd graders at Allendale Christian will be running their Jingle Bell Post Office. Christmas cards, stamps, and envelopes will be sold during snack recess, and delivery will be made at the end of each school day. Each item will cost 5 cents so you can send a Christmas greeting to a friend for only 15 cents! The Post Office will be open through Wednesday, December 18. All proceeds will go to Mel Trotter Ministries. Additional stamps and cards can be purchased through Miss Driesenga or Mrs. Sheppard as well. Spread some holiday cheer with a card!
We continue to have problems with students being picked up at the front curb after school.
In order to keep our students safe and to help with traffic flow, please do not park at the curb in front of the school building. Thank you for your co-operation.
ACS is looking for a couple people to be on a list as a substitute bus driver.
If you know of someone that currently drives bus, is a retired bus driver, or even someone who has their CDL and would be interested in driving-- please contact Brian Koetje at
Moms in Prayer
Each week a group of Moms from ACS, APS, and GV gather for one hour to grow together in praying for our kids, their teachers, and our schools. We meet right here at Allendale Christian on Thursdays
in the girls locker room! All Moms are welcome, whether you desire to grow in this area or if it is your greatest passion.
