US House Approves Forestry Bill

In a bipartisan vote, the House approved a forestry bill opposed by the Biden administration. The vote was 268-151. Fifty-five Democrats voted with Republicans in favor of the bill.

The legislation seeks to exempt projects like cutting down trees in an effort to prevent wildfires from environmental reviews.

Proponents of the bill say it will help fight wildfires and improve forest management. “America’s forests are on life support after decades of mismanagement,” said Congressman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.). “The clock on these ticking time bombs is down to the final few seconds, and Congress must move swiftly to save our forests from imminent destruction.”

Opponents, including major environmental advocacy groups, say the legislation would undercut key environmental protections and could lead to more logging.

A statement from the White House said that the legislation “contains a number of provisions that would undermine basic protections for communities, lands, waters, and wildlife; reduce opportunities for public input; and heighten the likelihood for conflict, litigation, and delay on needed forest restoration and resilience work. “

The legislation will now move to the Senate for discussion and voting.

Snowmobile Clubs - We Need Your Help!

If your snowmobile club has ever held a Club Ride in the Munising, Michigan Area - or if it's on your bucket list to do so -- we need your help!

Please consider writing letters to the Alger County Road Commission, who is planning to close a trail, less than 1-mile long, to the Pictured Rocks National Park. They are claiming snowmobiles have damaged the trail that is on the shoulder of the road.

The Road Commission says the Snowmobiles have done road damage and needs to pay for the repairs -- not the Logging Trucks.....Not the Snow Plows! Snowmobiles?!? Really??

Munising promotes they are Snowmobile Capitol of the World. Their businesses depend on snowmobiles during the winter. Their businesses need the snowmobile tourism.

Please consider writing a letter to:

acrc@jamadots.com and copy algersorva@gmail.com

Letters work!!

We appreciate your assistance in

keeping this trail open!
