Sonja Neely-Johnson

I have been an educator for over 28 years and have worked in Oakland USD and West Contra Costa USD. I am an advocate for all students, especially those who are most at risk. I am a product of Oakland USD, UC Davis and Mills College.

As an educator, I believe in promoting student success by focusing  supporting effective instructional practices of teachers. I spend a significant amount of time at school sites supporting administrators, teachers, and students in the implementation of core curriculum and intervention services promoting equitable access for all of our students.

I am currently the President of the RASA Charter of WCCUSD. Under my tenure as president, we have worked to increase membership in RASA, ACSA and promote the charter in the Region. I also currently serve as the Region 6 rep to ACSA's Leadership Development Committee. This committee seeks alignment of State ACSA with the Regions.

I am excited about this opportunity to run as your President-Elect and look forward to expanding the work of our Region in both Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. I became a member of ACSA as a student and never looked back. I have enjoyed having the opportunity to advocate on behalf of students at the ACSA Legislative Action Day. I love the direction that ACSA is moving. Equity and Access is important!  Our current education climate forecast is unpredictable so therefore, it is going to be even more important for our organization to continue to advocate on behalf our students and their families. I believe everyone has a right to a free high quality public education!
Vice President - Staff Development
Pamela Comfort

It is an honor to be nominated to continue serving as ACSA Region 6 Vice President of Staff Development.  As Deputy Superintendent for the Contra Costa County Office of Education, I am able to leverage my involvement with curriculum, instruction, student programs, and policy to identify and secure trainers and presenters for high interest topics.  I previously served as Associate Superintendent of CCCOE; Assistant Superintendent for Newark USD; Director of Assessment, Categorical Programs, Curriculum, and Program Improvement in San Lorenzo USD; and principal in San Lorenzo and Castro Valley USD.

I have been an ACSA member for the past twenty-one years and have served as a Charter Board member for Legislative Updates and Awards, a member of the Region 6 Mentor Program Advisory, a mentor for the Region 6 Administrator Mentor Program, and I have led the planning for the Region 6 Leadership Summit for the past six years.
ACSA has been the source of many powerful professional development sessions that I have attended at conferences, summits, institutes and academies.  I value the professional resources that ACSA provides to support educational leaders, and hope to continue leading Region 6 efforts to support ACSA’s core value of  “Continuous Improvement – Always striving to be better and causing positive change.”   Thank you for your consideration
Vice President - Programs
Cindy Matteoni

I am currently the VP of Programs for Region 6. I have been an elementary principal for 11 years and was a vice principal for 3 years. I’ve been in education for 34 years and I still find the joy in working with students that I did 34 years ago.

I have enjoyed my affiliation with ACSA through the roles of Charter President for Diablo Managers Association and as Region 6 VP of Programs. I’ve attended Leadership conferences and Summits. I’ve also participated in Legislative Action Day. I have coordinated the ACSA Awards Program the last 3 years and have worked closely with the VP of Professional Development to coordinate our Region 6 evening Awards Program. I am currently working on this year’s program as well as laying the groundwork for a Women’s Leadership group for our region.

I would like to continue to represent you as the VP of Programs because I know the importance of promoting our Region’s representation in the Administrator of the Year Awards program at the state ACSA level. I also understand the importance of the recognition of these recipients at our Awards Dinner. We have fine administrators across our two counties and we need to recognize the hard work that is being done by our members. I will work hard on your behalf to collaborate across our counties. As your VP of Programs, I will continue to strive to provide professional opportunities to our members.

My thirty-one year educational career has spanned from working in a large urban and very diverse unified school district to my current work as superintendent in the Moraga Elementary School District (MSD). Prior to serving as superintendent, I held the position of principal at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School, MSD, for three years. In 1996, I was hired as the new principal of Los Perales Elementary (LP), MSD, where I re-opened LP after being closed for thirteen years. Prior to my eleven-year tenure at LP, I was an assistant principal in the Stockton Unified School District, working in multi-track, year round schools. I began my teaching career in SUSD, teaching 5th and 6th grades.

My experiences include, in part: the Pivot Learning Educational Leadership Center, SELPA Governance Chair, St. Mary’s College adjunct professor, County Mandated Reporting Task Force Committee, the UC Davis Superintendent Executive Leadership Forum, the UC Davis Center for Applied Policy in Education, and numerous ACSA professional development programs.
We welcome your feedback and suggestions.
