ECHO (Environment, Community & Health Observatory) Network Annual Meeting 
The ACSRC along with the Battle River Watershed Alliance hosted the ECHO Network annual meeting from July 30 to August 1. The gathering brought together diverse experts to ask questions about the intersection between resource development and environmental, community and health factors.  A highlight of the gathering included a tour of Central Alberta including the Battle River headwaters, Leduc #1 Energy Discovery Centre, and Augustana and Alberta Parks' Research Centre at Miquelon Lake.  In addition to researchers from 4 universities and 5 organizations, a delegation of students from BC School District 91 offered a youth perspective on the meeting.

Alberta Open Farm Days - Province-wide Open House

August 18 & 19, 2018

Visit the farms and ranches that provide field to fork service at teh annual Alberta Open Farm Days.  Over 100 sites across the province offer demonstrations, tastings, and tours during the two-day event.  Ramble around your area and get to know your rural neighbours a bit better.  Finding your food in its natural home is a sure way to bring the province closer together.

Augustana Extended Education (AEE) is the professional development provider of the University of Alberta - Augustana Campus.  Since its launch in 2015, AEE has provided training to nearly 400 community leaders from over 60 rural Alberta communities.
This September through June 2019, AEE is offering a variety of professional training opportunities including a repeat delivery of the   Certificate in Rural Municipal Leadership , our popular   Grant Writing Workshop , new   Program Evaluation Workshops ,   Rural Planning & Development , and a new   'Emerging Issues'  series of one-day seminars.

Integrative Health Institute Conference: Traditional Medicine

Submission deadline: September 5, 2018
Conference: October 18, 2018

The Integrative Health Institute conference is an opportunity for health care providers, academics, learners, health administrators, and other key stakeholders to network and explore the theme of Traditional Medicine.  The conference includes keynote speakers, Dr. Lynden Crowshoe, a First Nations physician and researcher, and Dr. Pierre Haddad, a researcher and author on Natural Health Products and collaborator with Indigenous knowledge holders. 

A call for abstracts for poster presentations and the Rapid Talk competition is open until September 5, 2018.

Protecting Sources of Drinking Water in Alberta - Survey 

Participation deadline: September 14, 2018

The Alberta Water Council is asking for participation to document existing Source Water Protection (SWP) approaches.  Results will help guide protection of public, private and individual drinking water sources in Alberta.  By synthesizing SWP practices, processes, and risks to drinking water sources in Alberta, the council will be positioned to form a guidance document highlighting best practices in SWP province-wide.

National Symposium on Rural and Remote Housing/Homelessness
October 24-26, 2018, Canmore, AB

The Alberta Rural Development Network and Alberta Rural Coalition on Housing and Homelessness is hosting this inaugural symposium intended to share information, tools, training and expertise needed to address the unique issues of rural homelessness and housing.

Special rates available for non-profits, early career professionals and persons with lived experience of homelessness.  Keynote speakers to be released soon.
