ACT January Newsletter
Happy New Year!

We hope that your 2021 is off to a great start! The January edition of ACT Newsletter celebrates the 2021 winter season, providing updates on current activities, information and a preview of upcoming events.
Get outside this January!
Although milder temperatures earlier this month and rain melted most of December’s snow base, both Welch Woods and the Arundel Community Trails still offer a great escape to get outside and enjoy winter’s natural beauty.

With today's snow, current trail conditions will be wet with patchy ice, especially when temperatures fall below freezing. Waterproof boots, traction devices such as Yaktrax or a walking stick are recommended to insure solid footing. Get out & enjoy!

Connecting Conservation with Community: ACT's Scavenger Hunt is a fun nature discovery activity for all.
In December, a self-guided Nature Scavenger Hunt was set up at the Arundel Community Trails. The Scavenger Hunt involves hunting for and discovering hidden painted rocks, winter nature citings and animal tracks along the trail. The Scavenger Hunt has been a fun new way to enjoy the trail in winter.

Jenn Shea, of Arundel Parks and Recreation shares how Rec programs have changed and adapted in our Covid environment and how the children are enjoying the trails, especially the Scavenger Hunt. Click on the button below to read more!
Nature’s Corner: with ACT President Joan Hull
Winter Ferns delight with green accents in winter’s landscape.

Winter can be a season that seems colored only in white and brown except for the green of our evergreen trees, but nature gives us other hidden islands of green to gladden our hearts even here in wintery Maine. There are several Maine ferns that stay green all year. Three of them are found on the ACT trails.

Let’s see how you can identify them on your walks.
