Core Skills Graduation
In early February, we celebrated our latest group of volunteers to graduate from Core Skills - ACT's volunteer training. Core Skills is a series of workshops on creating safer accessible spaces, HIV 101, concepts in communication and anti-oppression. ACT requires that all volunteers complete Core Skills (except those who help with our kit building), so that all our service users have the best possible experience at ACT!

Congratulations to our recent grads, and thank you for your dedication to supporting ACT's mission! Interested in Volunteering with ACT? Reach out to John at jcox@actoronto.org to get on the email list!

Harm Reduction kits at ACT
|
|
Last month we held our first Harm Reduction kit-making party to put together our new overdose prevention kits. Harm reduction leads to better connections to mental, spiritual and physical health, and this kit-making party gave volunteers a chance to support harm reduction efforts from ACT as well as to chat about what harm reduction means to them.

Collectively, 16 volunteers put together 1200 assorted harm reduction kits, including safer glove kits (containing a pair of latex gloves, a pack of lube and a condom) and our overdose prevention kits (2 fentanyl test strips, 2 sterile spoons, 2 sterile waters).
Our volunteers had great conversations about substance use stigma and decriminalization, and how harm reduction reduces HIV risk significantly.

Celebrating International
Women's Day
International Women's Day is coming up on Wednesday, March 8, and ACT is taking some time to appreciate the women of ACT - our service users, our volunteers, and our staff. The Women's Programs at ACT are the largest group offering we provide with over 250 women, coming together in person to learn, grow and just relax together!
|
|
Looking for a meaningful way to celebrate International Women's Day? Consider purchasing our book, Positive Women of the World. PWOW, as we affectionately call it, tells the real stories of women from ACT and their experience of living with HIV. Find wisdoms, jokes, and heartfelt moments in the book, while funding the ACT program that helped these women find their footing - 100% of each book sale goes right back into the Women's programs.
