In June, we celebrated a WIN for rivers in the Senate.

Now, let's secure another victory in the House!

Our top legislative priority, the Drought Bill, is crucial for maintaining healthy water supplies and rivers in Massachusetts as our climate changes. Thanks to your advocacy, we got the bill ADOPTED in the Senate last month! Now, the Drought Bill has been proposed as an amendment to the Climate + Energy Bill in the House. Representatives must hear from you about the importance of adding adaptation measures to a bill primarily focused on mitigation. They will vote on this bill tomorrow, Wednesday, July 17.

We need your help: Ask your state legislators TODAY to support Amendment 23

Dear Representative,

I'm writing to ask that you cosponsor Amendment 23 in the Climate Bill filed by Representative Meschino. This legislation couldn't come at a more relevant time: As the Commonwealth simultaneously builds more housing and deals with the challenges of PFAS chemicals, we need to be smart and forward-thinking with our water.

This amendment provides a small yet crucial modernization of our approach to water conservation during drought. It is science-backed and state-approved, drawn from the state's 2023 Drought Management Plan.

Currently, the state only requires water conservation during a drought emergency. This amendment provides that authority earlier, so we don't have to wait until an emergency strikes. The conservation measures would apply only to non-essential water use, leaving more water available for drinking, growing food, and public safety.

Coordinating our response to drought will yield more sustainable waterways for the people and wildlife that depend on them.

I support this amendment, and in the interest of economic growth, public health, and the environment, I hope you will encourage your colleagues to adopt this amendment to the Climate Bill.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

THANK YOU FOR BEING AN ADVOCATE FOR OUR RIVERS!
