Great news: Thanks to your advocacy efforts, the maternal health bill passed in the House yesterday.
TODAY we need your help to get the Senate omnibus climate bill passed. The Massachusetts Senate vote on S2829, An Act upgrading the grid and protecting ratepayers today, scheduled for yesterday, June 20, was delayed by the powerful gas lobby. Senators used a parliamentary option of “laying the bill on the table” that can be used up to three times to derail the vote and build support for their amendments.
S2829, An Act upgrading the grid and protecting ratepayers, overhauls clean energy policy and includes allowing gas utilities to distribute “thermal energy”, limiting the use of polluting biomass, and electrifying commuter rail, school buses and public fleets.
Each of us needs to contact our state senator before 1:00 PM TODAY via email or phone and urge them to OPPOSE amendments 88, 97, 98, 102 and 122. Even if you contacted your state senator yesterday to support the bill and amendments, please contact them again today. Find your senator here.
Suggested script: “Please vote NO on amendments 88, 97, 98, 102 and 122 in S2829, An Act upgrading the grid and protecting ratepayers.
- Amendments 102 and 122 prevent the phasing out of the gas pipeline replacement called GSEP
- Amendments 88, 97 and 98 prevent the strategic decommissioning of the gas system
We face a huge challenge across a multitude of sectors to decrease emissions as rapidly and completely as possible to meet mandated state goals on behalf of a healthy, sustainable and livable future. Thank you.”
Feel free to personalize your emails. Remember to include your name and complete street address.
We encourage all League members to contact their senators TODAY and to share these actions with their personal networks.
