ACTION ALERT: Join Us for a National Day of Action to Protect Community Funding

TOMORROW: Join CCEH and our partners at the National Alliance to End Homelessness for a National Day of Action!

We need you to urge Connecticut’s members of the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) to support the inclusion of provisions in the FY 2027 appropriations package to protect CoC Program funding as well as increases in funding for the homeless assistance grants.

The THUD appropriations subcommittee members are vital because they directly write and negotiate the funding bill that sets final program levels and policy provisions for HUD programs.

How to Participate:

1. Identify members of Connecticut’s Congressional delegation who sit on House and Senate THUD Subcommittees –

  • Senator Chris Murphy represents the entire state of Connecticut, and sits on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD); all CT residents can send an email or call (202) 224-4041!

  • Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro represents Connecticut’s 3rd Congressional district and serves as the Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee. As such, she is an ex officio member of the House THUD Subcommittee. If you live or work in her district, send her office an email or call (202) 225-3661.

  • The THUD Appropriations subcommittee members must act now and adopt language to protect the funding bill that sets final program levels and policy provisions for HUD programs.

2. Share the message!

  • To prevent imminent harm and ensure stability in our community, we need Congress to intervene once again by adding guardrails for both FY 2026 and FY 2027 CoC Program funds. Specifically, we are asking you to support the following:

  • Direct HUD to noncompetitively renew all projects expiring in Calendar Year 2027 if FY 2026 funds are not otherwise lawfully awarded by December 1, 2026.

  • For the FY 2027 CoC Competition, direct HUD to noncompetitively renewal projects expiring in Calendar Year 2028 if all FY 2027 awards are not made and obligated before March 1, 2028. Require that Tier 1 be set at no less than 85 percent of a CoCs annual renewal demand amount and prohibit the inclusion of any language that would deprioritize renewals or limit project component types.

  • These guardrails and investments will preserve existing housing and services, prevent people from falling back into homelessness, and ensure local communities—not Washington—can continue making decisions based on local needs and conditions.
