Action alert Victims Matter

Hi Laurel,

An important deadline is approaching for legislators to act on a bill that would fund crime victim services, and we need your help.

Thanks to your strong advocacy, SB 5362 received a unanimous bipartisan recommendation of "do-pass" in Senate Law & Justice Feb. 7. It is assigned to Senate Ways & Means but is pending action in that committee. Meantime, its House companion HB 1487, awaits a hearing in House Appropriations.

In order to move forward, SB 5362/HB 1487 must be scheduled for a hearing and pass through at least one of these fiscal committees by next Friday, February 28.

PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATOR

& GOVERNOR FERGUSON TODAY

Tell them:

  • Services that help survivors recover are at risk without state action this year due to massive cuts in federal Victims of Crime Act funding.
  • Providers statewide, including here in King County, face a funding cliff starting this July 1. Without supplemental state funding, survivors of sexual assault and other violent crimes may find long waits or closed doors when they seek advocacy, therapy and other critical supports.
  • Senate Bill 5362 and House Bill 1487 would help prevent waitlists and closures by providing $50 million over the next two years for crime victim services statewide.
  • I am counting on you to take action to ensure sexual assault survivors and other victims of crime in my community find immediate support when they reach out for help.

Feel free to personalize your message about why this issue is important to you and your community!
