Support Care Throughout Pregnancy:

Ask Legislators to Pass Patient Access to Care Bill

Please contact your State Senator and Representative to urge passage of An Act prioritizing patient access to care (H.2370/S.1563) before the July 31 end of session.  An Act prioritizing patient access to care offers an important update to the statute governing abortion care later in pregnancy, often needed because of the discovery of critical fetal problems or threats to a mother’s life in a wanted pregnancy, to allow this care based on the professional judgment of physicians.

Despite tremendous progress to expand access to abortion later in pregnancy in recent sessions, statutory barriers still remain, forcing dozens of patients every year to be denied access to abortion care in Massachusetts after 24 weeks of pregnancy. Forcing patients to travel out of state for this care is not only costly, but increasingly dangerous in a post-Roe world.

This bill is one of LWVMA’s top five priorities. Here’s a template for emails or phone calls to your legislators:

Dear Sen./Rep. ______________:

As a member of the League of Women Voters of (town), I urge you to ask leadership to bring H.2370/S.1563, An Act prioritizing patient access to care, to the floor for a vote before the end of this session. This bill removes restrictive language on late-term abortions and leaves these critical and often devastating decisions to patients and their physicians. These decisions are often made in the face of serious fetal problems or risk to the mother’s life in a wanted pregnancy.

An Act prioritizing patient access to care offers a critically important update to the statute governing abortion care later in pregnancy to allow this care based on the professional judgment of physicians, ensuring patients and doctors who carefully consider these health care decisions to prioritize health, safety, and compassion. See our testimony on this bill HERE.

We must not put this action off for another session.

Thank you,
