Tell Education Chair Hamrick to Run House Bill 2100!
House Bill 2100 creates a pilot program, which combines much-needed mental health with a model of school-based diversion. Under this program, students who get in trouble at school will be considered for mental health as an alternative to harsh discipline. Time is running out to get this bill passed this year!
Background
Harsh disciplinary measures are the entry point for the school-to-prison pipeline. Students who get involved with the juvenile justice system are less likely to graduate and more likely to wind up in the adult criminal system. This program gives at-risk youth the support they need to stay in the classroom.
