For years we've to get the California Department of Pesticide Regulation to fix the reporting issues that make it challenging to enforce protections for kids at school from pesticide drift. The Department hasn't made these simple changes, so we turned to the legislature for help.
AB 1864 (Connolly) will require growers to report pesticide use in ways that align with the provisions of the regulation, will require Notices of Intent before using the worst pesticides, and will protect private school students for the first time.
The bill has passed through two committees and is now in the hands of the Appropriations Committee.
It's a tough budget year, but this simple measure will cost very little and will make an important protection much stronger. Please let the Appropriations Committee know we need their "Aye" vote!
