Activism is what has moved this country toward its promise, in tiny steps and breathtaking leaps over 247 years.

Activism has expanded the democracy again and again, winning recognition of civil rights, BIPOC rights, women’s rights, workers’ rights, LGBTQ+ rights... And activism is still fighting for the rights of every human being to vote and to live free of discrimination. Activism has always lost and lost and lost... before it wins.

America needs activism. If you go to a doctor who always says you’re fine, you’re number one, nothing could ever be wrong with you… you could wind up dying from a minor wound. Activism diagnoses the moral diseases of this country. And activism is itself the medicine.

America is strong enough to admit our failings, past and present. We’re not cowards who require our own history to be rewritten with all the bad parts taken out. A confident America faces the nightmares in our history so we can right those wrongs in the present and dream up a better future.

To be an activist is to have the clarity to see what is wrong, the passion to make it right, and the courage to take a single step in that direction.

This July 4th week, we celebrate the generations of activists responsible for everything good in America – from the Revolution to the abolitionists, from the suffragettes to the Civil Rights Movement, from Stonewall to Greenpeace, from the Women’s March to Black Lives Matter… to the Resistance that beat Trump and continues to beat back fascism every day. These are the troops who have given, and are giving, their lives to bring America closer, step by hard-won step, to its still unfulfilled promise. God bless our troops!

There are two crucial races heating up. Senator Jon Tester is one of the three most vulnerable Democratic senators up for re-election in 2024. His seat could decide control of the US Senate. And we’re targeting House seat MT-01 – 'cause if we defeat Republican Congressman Ryan Zinke, we could help secure the US House. 

Here’s why you can make a real difference. In 2018, Tester won by 17,913 votes – while the state went for Trump in 2020 by almost 100,000 votes. And Zinke won by only THREE points. The margins are tight, and can swing our way. So we’re aiming to register over 20,000 new Democrats in Montana by 2024. Our plan is HERE, and it outlines how we’ll be spending every single penny you donate.
