PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear Colleagues:
 The 5 ACVSMR Committees and the Board of Directors are hard at work behind the scenes making the College work for you. They spend countless hours taking care of current college business and planning for the future.
Current Committee Activities
1. Examination Committee
- Preparing for the ACVSMR board examination to be held Feb. 6-9 in Fort Collins, Colorado. This involves gathering new questions in all 3 categories (core, equine, canine), vetting them for their appropriateness, and predicting the difficulty of each question using the Angoff method.
2. Continuing Education Committee
- Planning the ACVSMR Special Session to be held in conjunction with the ACVS Surgery Summit October 18 in Las Vegas, Nevada. See call for abstracts below.
- Inviting and scheduling speakers and associated ACVSMR events such as the annual general meeting
3. Residency & Credentials Committee
- Assessing Annual Resident Reports (there are 90 to evaluate this year), including critical evaluation of the logs of all training requirements for all trainees and sending reports to each trainee.
4. Nominating Committee
- The committee is seeking names of individuals for nomination to the Examination Committee. If you are interested in serving, please contact Dr. Kevin Haussler at [email protected].
5. Public Relations and Marketing Committee
- Establishing student clubs at veterinary schools
- Contacting previous and current supporters of ACVSMR programs to discuss how the College can effectively serve their needs in response to their contributions
Board of Directors activities include:
- Progressing toward registering the ACVSMR mark
- Preparing a survey to make some minor changes to the by-laws. Note: in the coming months you will receive a survey regarding these changes. The most important requested change in the by-laws will be the adoption of a revised ACVSMR mission statement. Please vote on this and the other by-law changes. We MUST have a quorum of ACVSMR Diplomates voting in order to effect these by-law revisions.
- Preparing for recertification of Diplomates. Each Diplomate must recertify every 8 to 10 years. Make sure you continue to update your CV and, in particular, keep track of all ACVSMR-related activities.

ACVSMR is dedicated to fostering research in sports medicine and rehabilitation topics by once again providing you an opportunity to present the results of your work at our special session at the annual ACVS Symposium. Diplomates: Pay Your Annual Dues by January 1st
ACVSMR Diplomates: Your 2019 ACVSMR Diplomate dues in the amount of $350 are now due. An email notification was sent to each diplomate in early December.
To pay your dues online using either PayPal or credit card, log into your ACVSMR account at this address:

Please use the e-mail address that this message was sent to for logging in. If you need to retrieve your password, there is a link there that will allow you to do that. Once you have entered the Diplomate Area, use the 'Pay Now' button to begin the payment process.
When you are finished, PayPal will e-mail you a receipt for your records. You also will be able to print out an invoice showing your payment was received from the Diplomate Area.
Late Payment of 2019 Annual Membership Dues:
If payment is received between January 2 and March 31, 2019: Please Pay $400 (US)
If payment is received between April 1 and May 31, 2019: Please Pay $700 (US)
If payment is not received before June 1, 2019:
· Individual will be placed on inactive diplomate status.
· In order to return to active diplomate status, the individual will be required to pay all outstanding past and current annual membership dues, plus an additional membership reinstatement fee of $200 (US).

Small Animal ACVSMR Residency Position, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado
- Colorado State University is offering a residency position to qualified DVMs seeking greater exposure to and expertise in the discipline of sports medicine and rehabilitation. The successful candidate must have completed, or be currently receiving training in a rotating small animal internship or equivalent. Duties of the small animal sports medicine and rehabilitation resident will include supervised clinical assignments, research, and DVM student teaching. Participation in weekly case presentations, journal clubs and daily case rounds will be expected. For successful completion of the residency program, two publications in the area of rehabilitation/sports medicine are required. The resident will be expected to present their research at a major conference (travel funding provided). Residency training will follow the guidelines of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and emphasize completion of requirements for successful submission of certifying credentials. Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation ACVSMR Residency, Veterinary Orthopedic and Sports Medicine (VOSM) Group, Annapolis Junction, Maryland - VOSM invites applicants for an ACVSMR Resident under the guidance of our ACVSMR diplomates with the support of our board-certified veterinary surgeons. This program is directed toward applicants who have successfully completed a small animal rotating internship. While the residency program places a strong emphasis on didactic training (rounds, journal club, book club, rehabilitation rounds), it also provides ample support for clinical research and publication. Part of our requirements for the residency program includes writing and publishing two peer reviewed articles on a self-chosen topic. The ACVSMR Residency program at VOSM also has strong support for out-rotations at local universities and a local human sports medicine and regenerative medicine center to fulfill the 20 weeks of immersion required in diagnostic imaging, surgery, internal medicine, neurology, and pain management. Help Build a Resource Library for Veterinary Students!
The public relations committee of ACVSMR is hoping to develop sports medicine and rehabilitation student clubs in veterinary schools. We are conducting a survey of all U.S. veterinary schools and are planning to establish contact with advisors of existing clubs. In addition, we will be reaching out to faculty at the remaining schools offering assistance in developing student clubs.
For our organization to be most beneficial to these student clubs, we are now requesting that ACVSMR diplomates help us to create a library of resource materials. These can include case reports (canine and equine), webinars, and videotapes of clinical conditions with diagnosis, etc. We will make these resources available to student club advisors for use in club meetings, crediting those who have supplied the resources.
