Employment
According to the EEOC’s lawsuit, North Memorial Health failed to hire an applicant who is deaf for a greeter position because of her disability and failed to provide her with a reasonable accommodation. The applicant was qualified for the position and could perform the essential functions of the job, which included greeting visitors, applying COVID-19 masking standards and policies, giving directions, and keeping the area tidy and welcoming, violated the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), as amended.
In Perkins v. City of New York, a deaf employee requested a reasonable accommodation of a video phone to enable her to perform her essential job functions. She did not receive the phone for several months, and then there were technical issues that were not fully addressed for many months.

Accessible Built Environment
According to U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the U.S. Attorney’s Office received a complaint that patients with physical disabilities could not access the entrance of the Commonwealth Clinic Group, Inc. located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The front entrance could only be accessed by stairs. Although Commonwealth Clinical Group had a ramp to access the rear entrance, that ramp was located in a restricted employee parking lot, the main entrance had no signs pointing to the rear entrance, and there was no designated accessible parking space.
