President's Message

We are ecstatic to kick off April with significant progress in our policy efforts.

ADAO is excited to launch the new  "kNØw Asbestos"  website centralizing government information regarding asbestos health risks, prevention, abatement, and more. Special thanks to the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency and ADAO's "Partners for Prevention" Committee for their recommendations and reviews.

Just days ago, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed the 14th Asbestos Awareness Resolution! The resolution, led by Sen. Jon Tester of Montana and bipartisan colleagues, designates April 1-7, 2018 as National Asbestos Awareness Week. We extend our deepest gratitude to these Congressional champions for their action to protect public health and the environment.

This nationally designated week will go global yet again for the 14th Annual Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW). Thanks to our friends at McOnie, GAAW materials will be available in six languages to ensure our advocacy hits a broad international audience. The more you share, the farther our education and stories reach - find out simple ways to get involved and be part of the solution!

The 14th Annual Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference is right around the corner! The weekend-long event launches on April 13 in Washington, DC, so make sure you've checked all the boxes on your conference prep checklist! In addition to the exclusive academic conference programming led by esteemed global experts, we're proud to present our Meet the Artists Signature Cocktail Reception and Awards Dinner on Saturday night. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to mingle with several talented artists using their platforms to spread asbestos awareness.

We have continued to double down on our advocacy in Washington. Toward the end of the month, in collaboration with dedicated stakeholders from the labor and public health communities, we had a productive meeting with the Environmental Protection Agency to keep them held accountable and properly focused on protecting the health from deadly environmental hazards .

Lastly, a huge thank you to the village of individuals who have worked tirelessly to coordinate our international conference and week-long global asbestos awareness campaign. Our efforts and impact would not be possible without the generous contributions and commitment of our dedicated volunteers and kind sponsors. So on behalf of all of us at ADAO - THANK YOU times infinity! Together, change is possible.

In unity,

Linda Reinstein
