As summer approaches, we are excited to soak up some sunshine, and continue our progress towards an asbestos-free country.

Knowledge is power. We are gearing up for our 16th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference on September 17-18, 2021. This year the conference will be fully virtual, with an amazing lineup of speakers and artists to help educate and bring asbestos to the forefront of medical and political conversations. Be sure to mark your calendars! Registration for the conference opens on June 15.

For the first time in ADAO conference history, we are hosting a virtual film festival called Art, Activism, and Shared Stories on Friday, September 17. The day will feature three films and their filmmakers: The Mother by Paolo Monico, Dirty Laundry by Conor B. Lewis and Zack Johnson, and Breathless by Daniel Lambo. Each filmmaker will have the opportunity to introduce and screen their film, then hold a short discussion to reflect on why it is so important to share stories about how asbestos affects people and their families. You don’t want to miss this event! Registration will be open June 15.

We are excited to give conference attendees the opportunity to meet and engage with our sponsors, who at this year's AAPC will host a virtual booth to interact with our ADAO community.

Keep checking out our eight-part Meet the Speaker Series blog for more information about the amazing lineup of conference speakers and filmmakers.

Our Tenth Virtual Zoom Event was held on Tuesday, March 11 — featuring Dr. Celeste Monforton and Mark Catlin — and was a roaring success! Thanks to our dedicated experts, ADAO’s prevention and policy efforts continue to make landmark steps forward. To watch the video, click here.

We are awaiting the final settlement agreement for our ADAO v. EPA Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Asbestos Chemical Data Reporting Case that we began nearly two-and-a-half years ago. ADAO also filed another suit against EPA in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to ensure that the Agency meets its obligation to evaluate the risks of “legacy” asbestos found in millions of buildings and in consumer products across the United States, as required under TSCA. The presence of legacy asbestos in homes, schools, workplaces and consumer products across the U.S. is a significant contributor to exposure. Our legal action made it into Reuters.

Our work is made possible by generous donations from individuals and sponsors. Special thanks to our 2021 Platinum sponsor Simmons Hanly Conroy, Gold Sponsor The Gori Law Firm, and Silver Sponsor Early, Lucarelli, Sweeney & Meisenkothen.

Together we are making a change.
