President's Message

As this year is already whipping by, ADAO remains firmly committed to our ban asbestos advocacy, and prevention efforts.

In December, the Environmental Protection Agency denied our Right to Know petition. Undeterred by the EPA's decision, ADAO, American Public Health Association (APHA), Center for Environmental Health (CEH), Environmental Health Strategy Center (EHSC), Environmental Working Group (EWG), and Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families (SCHF) promptly filed suit in the US District Court for the Northern District of California to overturn EPA's December petition denial. Through its suit against EPA , ADAO looks forward to ensuring the Agency upholds its mission of "protecting human health and the environment."

Mark your calendars for April 1-7, as Global Asbestos Awareness Week returns! We are excited that our National Asbestos Awareness Week Resolution has been introduced by the U.S. Senate, championed by Senator Jon Tester. We want to thank Tester and his twelve original bipartisan co-sponsors for the introduction of this Resolution and are excited and hopeful that it will pass in the coming week!

To continue spreading awareness and spark action, during Global Asbestos Awareness Week, ADAO will be hosting our 15th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference on April 5-7, 2019 in Washington, DC. We are proud to feature an impressive lineup of nearly 30 speakers from 10 countries to present you with the latest information on global education, advocacy, and community efforts.

Join me in congratulating ADAO's Conference Honorees, including Congressman Frank Pallone. We are also very excited to announce that we are designating the Tribute of Unity Award to all previous honorees and keynote speakers from 2005-2018.

Prepare for our can't-miss conference with  ADAO's Simple 5-Point Conference Prep Checklist . In this blog, you will find all the important information you need to know about preparing for the conference. Know a Mesothelioma Warrior you would like to honor? Consider a 2019 Conference Program Tribute page to honor and celebrate your loved one. The tribute page submission  deadline is Sunday, March 10th.

In February, we launched our 8-week Meet the Speakers blog series introducing you to the powerful voices you'll hear at ADAO's conference. Each week leading up to the conference, a new blog in the series is published, introducing you to the speakers and honorees. We look forward to welcoming you all to what promises to be our best conference yet, while we celebrate ADAO's 15th Anniversary.

Together, we are making change happen!
