As we prepare for May, ADAO hopes everyone is staying safe and healthy. Although we are in a time of distancing physically, we need not distance socially. ADAO remains here to help and support our community through this trying time.
It is with profound sadness that I share thatMike Mattmuller, 38, passed away on April 14, 2020. Mike was an amazing man. His gentle, yet powerful voice resonated through the halls of Congress. After being diagnosed with mesothelioma at the age of 29, Mike and his wife, Jessica, became strong advocates to ban asbestos and promote research for a cure. Although our 2020 April Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference was postponed, we have been wonderfully busy with educational and community events on Zoom. Dr. Arthur L. Frank, Science Advisory Board Co-Chair, shared his vast knowledge during conversation about health and well-being during the pandemic on Zoom. Check out the blog for recommendations and suggestions. Our second Zoom event on April 13th was ascreening of the asbestos documentary DIRTY LAUNDRY and a Q&A with award-winning filmmakers Conor Lewis and Zack Johnson.

Since the EPA postponed the Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals (SACC) Draft Asbestos Risk Evaluation meeting, ADAO will be hosting our first online press conference on May 28 at 2 pm ET to discuss the dangerously narrow risk evaluation.
