It's hard to believe the year is coming to an end in just two short months! Once again, thanks to many, we exceeded our goals. We started this year with a triple legal win in our ADAO v. EPA cases and continued to take landmarks steps forward.
November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. An estimated 34,000 Americans die each year due to asbestos-related lung cancer. In honor of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, ADAO is presenting five ways you can learn more about asbestos and asbestos-related illnesses, advocate for those who have been exposed, and fight for a ban to help save lives.
Powerful! ProPublica published their excellent investigation in a series about chlor-alkali plants using deadly asbestos which impacted workers, families, and communities, and the lawsuits filed against. The article also illustrated how lawmakers and the public are urging Congress to ban asbestos. Four stories are below and are also in our new blog for you to read and share -- truly some of the best reporting ever.
We are gearing up for the season of giving! And we are excited to participate in Giving Tuesday on November 29. ADAO is a small nonprofit that relies largely on donations to continue our work and make an impact. We hope you will consider supporting ADAO during this holiday season by making a donation.
Videos are out! Want to relive ADAO’s 17th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference? Or maybe just our Friday's “Art, Advocacy, and Action” Festival? Or the special Awards & Recognition Event? If so, check out some of the newly uploaded videos in our 2022 Conference Playlist.
ADAO applauds the EPA’s creation of an office dedicated to protecting and advancing environmental justice and civil rights. We look forward to working with the office and discussing the health impact of asbestos and prevention efforts to mitigate exposure. For too long the most vulnerable communities in the United States have disproportionately suffered from environmental injustices as the air, water, and soil of their communities have been polluted and poisoned. We are eager to make change happen together.
As we begin to reflect on 2022, we are grateful for the strides that have been made this year. A special thank you to the Members of Congress who have supported ARBAN, to the EPA for their important work, and to all of you in our community who have been valiant advocates in our fight for a nation free of asbestos-caused suffering. As always, a special thank you to our sponsors: Platinum: Simmons, Hanly, Conroy, Gold: The Gori Law Firm, and Silver: Bailey & Glasser LLP and Early, Lucarelli, Sweeney & Meisenkothen. Thank you for generously supporting ADAO. You prove, together, we make change happen!
