PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

September has been a monumental month for us here at ADAO and we are excited about all the change and forward movement that awaits us in October.

This year's Mesothelioma Awareness Day on September 26 was unlike any other, because The Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act of 2019 (ARBAN) ( S. 717 ) and ( H.R. 1603 ) took another landmark step forward in the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Environment and Climate Change and advanced to the full Committee on Energy and Commerce. ADAO is proud to be the leading the the way to secure a federal and comprehensive asbestos ban.

As ARBAN advances legislatively, we're simultaneously keeping a strong legal front. ADAO went to court for a procedural hearing earlier this month in our ongoing case, ADAO et al v EPA, in the District Court for the Northern District of California.

Collaboration across national boundaries is key to our movement's success. For the second year in a row, ADAO was invited by OSHAfrica t o speak at their conference in South Africa focused on occupational health and safety. I had the honor of joining colleagues such as Dr. Ivan Ivanov, from the World Health Organization and Dr. Claire Deacon, a member of the ADAO Prevention Board.

This week, ADAO unveiled the new annual memorial dedication video featuring Warren Zevon's  "Keep Me in Your Heart," a beautiful award-winning song about the singer's experience with the asbestos-caused cancer. Just days later, ADAO was in Alton, Illinois for the 11th Annual Miles for Meso 5K Race and 3K Walk/Fun-Run , where runners and walkers wore bibs dedicated to Mesothelioma Warriors and loved ones.

Knowledge is power. ADAO also recently published our latest infographic " Asbestos: Still Legal and Lethal in the USA today | The Deadly Legacy of Asbestos " detailing facts and stats about asbestos. In addition to new educational materials, ADAO will once again feature a 4-part Health Literacy series about asbestos disease and prevention for October's Health Literacy Month.

Lastly, ADAO sends our greatest congratulations to Mesothelioma Warriors Paul , Nigel, and the entire Erase Meso team for cycling from Lands End to John o'Groats, the entire length of Britain (960 miles) in 10 days.

Together we make change happen.
