Zoom fatigue is real.
In addition to the stress brought on by self-isolation, practitioners are experiencing additional symptoms of exhaustion brought on by the use of online communication tools. Why does this occur?
- Seeing yourself on camera creates a heightened level of self-consciousness.
- Being “on” camera is like performing in front of others and raises one’s stress level.
|
|
|
- Including work, social and family activities all in the same space does not allow for separation or down time.
- Limiting the ability to read body language, facial cues and other nonverbal types of expression requires the mind to concentrate harder on the visual message.
It is not your imagination.
Zoom fatigue is real
. It is important to take breaks, engage in casual conversation and even turn off the video portion of the conference. This is new to everyone, so talking through challenges or sharing in the experience is important. Find your own style and soon you’ll be glad to have the option of online mediation tools.

Mindfulness.
As we survey the landscape of our experience at this time in our lives and consider the lives of so many in our local communities and across the world, the enormity of suffering and despair, anxiety and grief, confusion, and feelings of helplessness is palpable. At times such as these, many are especially inclined to (re)turn to mindfulness meditation—both to experience moments of calm and cultivate a more enduring stability of mind and body.
