DRIVERLESS CAR TECHNOLOGY TO BE DISCUSSED BY NYC COUNCIL TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE

Testimony Expected From DOT, TLC, Technology Companies and Automotive Companies, to Discuss Future of The Car in NYC

New York, NY -- On Friday at 10 AM in the Council Chambers of City Hall, the NYC Council Transportation Committee Chair Ydanis Rodriguez will hold an oversight hearing examining the future prospects of driverless technology and what it means for New York City.

Autonomous driving is the latest tech fad, with tech and tranportation-tech companies like Google, Uber, Tesla, Lyft and Apple teaming up--or competing with car companies such as General Motors, Audi, Toyota and more, to put driverless cars on the road.

The race to develop these vehicles and deliver practical retail models to the market is heating up, with companies investing billions of dollars in the next generation of cars.

The Council Transportation Committee will examine what the prospects for these vehicles are in New York City, including everything from street and technology safety to what infrastructure might be required, to jobs and the impact on existing industries. Testimony is expected from NYC DOT, NYC TLC, Tech: NYC, companies engaged in developing driverless technology and more.
