- TODAY Monday, April 16, 2018 at 2:00pm, Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez will do a businesses walkthrough in Northern Manhattan to educate them about the new Hookah Laws that go in effect today.
On September 27, 2017, The New York City Council voted on a package of legislation regulating the use of hookah, including Laws 1075-A and 1076-A introduced by Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, and Law 139-C introduced by Council Member Vincent Gentile. Law 1075-A would require signage at non-tobacco smoking establishments and Law 1076-A would raise the minimum age for the purchase of non-tobacco smoking products, including shisha that doesn't contain tobacco and herbal cigarettes that do not contain tobacco, from 18 to 21. Law 139-C would include the use of hookah in the Smoke Free Air Act.
The public widely underestimates the dangers of smoking hookah when, in fact, hookah and cigarette smokers are exposed to many of the same health risks, including cancer, decreased lung function, and heart disease. Particles and toxicants released during its use also expose secondhand smokers to these risks.
The fact is that 45 minutes of smoking hookah is comparable to smoking 120 cigarettes. Its prevalent use is putting the health of our city and youth at risk. Today, we are taking a clear stance in protecting the health and well-being of New Yorkers.

hará un recorrido por los Negocios en el Norte de Manhattan para informarles sobre las leyes de Hookah que estran en vigentes el dia de hoy.
El pasado 27 de septiembre del 2017, El Concejo Municipal de la Ciudad de Nueva York voto por un paquete de legislación que regula el uso de la Hookah, incluyendo los proyectos de ley 1075-A y 1076-A presentados por el Concejal Ydanis Rodríguez y la ley 139-C presentada por el ex Concejal Vincent Gentile. La
ley 1075 Va a requerir señalización en establecimientos que no fuman tabaco y la ley 1076-A elevaría la edad mínima de 18 a 21 años para poder comprar productos que no tienen tabaco, incluyendo "shisha" lo que se usa en la Hookan, que no contiene tabaco y cigarrillos herbales que no contienen tabaco. El proyecto de ley 139-C incluiría el uso de la Hookah en la Ley del "Aire Libre de Humo" conocida en Ingles como el "Smoke Free Air Act".
