CITY COUNCIL KICKS OFF FIRST OF FIVE TOWN HALL MEETINGS ON VISION ZERO & PEDESTRIAN SAFETY

Council Has Planned One Town Hall in Each Borough, Manhattan Up First at John Jay College

New York, NY-On Wednesday, March 26th, 2014, the NYC Council will kick off the first of 5 official town hall meetings with the NYC Department of Transportation, dedicated to gathering community feedback for Mayor Bill de Blasio's signature street safety plan. Headlined by Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Committee on Transportation Chair Ydanis Rodriguez, Public Safety Chair Vanessa Gibson, Health Chair Corey Johnson, Education Chair Daniel Dromm, and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, the first meeting will be held at John Jay College on the West Side of Manhattan.

Each meeting will be held in a different borough as each borough has unique issues related to traffic safety. Residents from each borough are encouraged to attend to discuss their concerns with the Vision Zero plan. Approximately 4,000 New Yorkers are involved in traffic crashes per year, resulting in over 250 deaths. Traffic crashes are also the number one cause of injury related death to children under 14. As the Vision Zero action plan is implemented, community feedback will be key.
