It is the one full service supermarket in the neighborhood of Fort Washington. The next closest supermarket is down 11 flights of steps or a large hill and such topographical realities present a challenge to the many seniors living in the area. On January 10th, nearly 300 residents joined elected officials and community leaders to rally in support of the supermarket and warn the landlord that they are in no way supportive of the plans to bring in a Walgreens pharmacy in its stead. Associated Supermarket has served this area for 30 years and residents are also wary of adding a corporate chain pharmacy given that the locally owned Hilltop Pharmacy sits right across the street.
