New York, NY -- On Friday, December 9th at 12:30 PM, Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez will host a street co-naming ceremony with elected officials, entertainers and the family of Mr. Freddy Beras Goico. The street co-naming will take place at one of the key hubs of entertainment in the neighborhood, just outside the United Palace for the Cultural Arts on 175th Street and Broadway.
Mr. Freddy Beras Goico
had a career in media and entertainment for over 30 years. He was a T.V. presenter, writer, radio personality and award-winning actor. As a child in the 1950's, his family fled to Colombia to escape the brutal Trujillo regime in the D.R., where he would end up spending many years before returning in the 1970's. Mr. Beras Goico was more than a media personality however, he was a philanthropist, supporting the poor, and was known for speaking his mind against the injustices of the government.
To many in the Washington Heights-based Dominican community, Mr. Beras Goico was a constant and consoling presence, who brought laughter, entertainment and good spirit. His efforts of resistance to injustice are particularly uplifting and contributed to the effort to have this important street co-named in his honor.
