AEA to Award CASH PRIZES for an ADS-B Out Installation to Five Aircraft Owners at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh
To help incentivize owners of general aviation aircraft to meet the Federal Aviation Administration's ADS-B Out equipage mandate in the United States, the Aircraft Electronics Association will randomly award five aircraft owners with $1,000 each toward an ADS-B compliant upgrade during the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture Oshkosh, July 23-29, in Wisconsin. This year marks the fifth-consecutive year that the AEA has made the $1,000 award available to five aircraft owners, meaning that a total of $25,000 has been awarded during the last five years. 2018-19 AEA Pilot's Guide to be Unveiled at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, July 23-29
Published annually, the 2018-19 edition of the AEA Pilot's Guide will be unveiled with free distribution at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in Wisconsin, July 23-29. AEA staff members will distribute thousands of complimentary copies to pilots and aircraft owners at the AEA's AirVenture booth, No. 2035/2036 in Hangar B at Wittman Regional Airport. This year marks the 16th annual edition of the AEA Pilot's Guide, a consumer's directory loaded with educational articles, timely information and data about the wonderful world of avionics technologies.

In addition to the initial distribution at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, thousands of copies will be distributed at several industry trade shows and to all AEA member companies at no charge. Individuals residing in the United States also may request a free copy online while supplies last.  More...
AEA Educational Foundation Awards More Than $100,000 in Scholarships for 2018-19 Academic Year
The AEA Educational Foundation announced the names of the individuals who were awarded scholarships worth more than $100,000 for the 2018-19 academic year. The Foundation awards scholarships to students pursuing a career in the general aviation maintenance and aircraft electronics industry. The intent of these scholarships is to identify and reward those individuals who best exemplify the qualities that lead to success in the aviation industry. More...
Paula Derks Announces Retirement Transition; Search for Next AEA President and CEO underway
During her annual State of the Association address at the 61st annual AEA International Convention & Trade Show in Las Vegas on March 26, Paula Derks announced her intention to retire as president of the Aircraft Electronics Association effective May 2019. Soon after Derks’ retirement announcement, AEA Chairman David Loso, along with AEA Vice Chairman Garry Joyce, formed a search committee to consider qualified candidates. The search committee, which includes former chairmen of the AEA board, has developed a job description for the position of president and chief executive officer.

The process is now actively underway to identify candidates to lead the association, and the search committee expects to recommend a slate of finalists to the board of directors during the fall board meeting in Kansas City, Missouri, which is set for early October 2018. More...

Avionics Installation and Integration Training

This course is designed for technicians who have completed the AEA’s Basic Wiring and Avionics Installation Course and/or have a couple of years of basic avionics installation practice and are looking for more experience integrating common general aviation installations. Technicians will learn how to plan, install, interface, configure and check out an installation consisting of a Garmin GTN 650 touchscreen nav/com/GPS, Garmin GTX 33ES remote transponder and an Aspen EFD1000 primary flight display.
RVSM Maintenance

Attendees will be introduced to the regulations, documentation, test equipment and maintenance practices associated with performing RVSM maintenance. This course assumes the attendee has good operating knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations 91.411 and 91.413.
Pitot-Static and Transponder Training Theory & Practice
Sept. 20-21, 2018
For the entry-level technician or those looking for basic training to learn how to perform pitot-static and transponder certifications. This course is recommended as a prerequisite to AEA’s Pitot-Static and Transponder Certification course. This two-day course provides the attendee with the history, theory of operation, system setup, hands-on testing and troubleshooting skills necessary to perform FAR 91.411 and 91.413 checks. The latest equipment from DFW Instruments and Laversab will be used in the course.

PRO STAR AVIATION announced its successful move into the newly constructed hangar on the East side of the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in Londonderry, New Hampshire.

GARMIN announced the selection of a tandem Garmin integrated flight deck by Tactical Air Support Inc. (TacAir) for its fleet of supersonic F-5 fighter aircraft.

GULF COAST AVIONICS and PACIFIC COAST AVIONICS President and CEO Rick Garcia announced that the companies have been appointed authorized dealers for Whelen Engineering’s full line of exterior and interior aircraft lighting products.

TRIG AVIONICS announced plans for a future nav/comm product family, which is expected to be available to pilots in early 2019. The first preview of the product is being made now, allowing pilots to see the newly designed TX56 nav/comm.

L3 AVIATION PRODUCTS and ASPEN AVIONICS are partnering to produce another informational product webinar on July 18, to help meet the ADS-B mandate.
STANDARDAERO received EASA approval for its STC for installing Honeywell JetWave satellite communications systems and associated Ka-Band radomes on EASA-registered Gulfstream GV/GV-SP aircraft. In addition, StandardAero, in partnership with California-based MRO ACI Jet, recently certified another Honeywell JetWave Ka-band satellite communication system, completing an STC for installations on Bombardier Global Express, Global 5000 and Global 6000 Aircraft.

DALLAS AVIONICS hired Charles Noble as its new director of Canadian sales and technical support.

GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE CORP.'s G600 will make its first appearance at the Farnborough International Airshow on display, July 16–22, in Farnborough, England.

ESTERLINE Avionics Systems announced the successful completion of ground tests and flight tests of their SBAS-capable CMA-5024 GPS/SBAS Landing System Sensor Unit on B737NG aircraft with the goal of obtaining an STC for ADS-B Out and SBAS/GPS Navigation.

ASTRONICS CORP., through its wholly owned subsidiary, Astronics Test Systems, announced the shipment of its 2,000th semiconductor tester and that its equipment has tested more than 10 billion semiconductor devices to date.
