AERO CHARTER INC. promoted LAURA BURRIS to chief financial officer and director of human resources. Burris also serves on the company's strategic planning board, advising senior management and directing the future of Aero Charter.
On Friday, Oct. 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Kansas City campus of AVIATION INSTITUTE OF MAINTENANCE will be hosting an aviation awareness workshop at its school.
AVIDYNE CORP. announced it has received an STC from the FAA for the installation of its DFC90 Digital Autopilot in Cessna 182-series aircraft when interfaced with the Evolution Pro PFD from ASPEN AVIONICS. This is the first in a series of DFC90 certifications in aircraft with the Aspen PFD. Follow-on certifications are expected to include the Beechcraft Bonanza and Baron series.
DUNCAN AVIATION welcomed TONY GILBERT as the company's new regional manager for the Great Lakes Region in the U.S. Gilbert has been instrumental in setting up several worldwide initiatives for Duncan Aviation in Europe and South America. He returns to the U.S. in this new role, where he is based at it's Battle Creek, Mich., facility.
EMBRY-RIDDLE President Dr. JOHN P. JOHNSON and the chancellor of the worldwide campus, Dr. JOHN WATRET, have approved the establishment of the Embry-Riddle worldwide college of business to replace the current worldwide department of business administration.
PRO STAR AVIATION LLC. announced its recent appointment of DANIEL HODGINS as sales manager.




General Aviation: A State-by-State Economic Impact Survey


The Alliance for Aviation Across America launched a wide-scale economic impact survey to outline the benefit of general aviation on businesses, local economies and communities around the nation. AEA Wired will highlight a different state each issue:

Jobs: 8,000

Econ. Impact: $639 million

General Aviation Caucuses were formed in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate in 2009, to inform members and staff about the importance of GA to the nation's economy and transportation system. AEA says FAA Proposes a Significant and  Potentially Damaging Rewrite of Part 145

AEA's SMS Program Can Save Repair Stations $$$ From COTS Programs
The AEA has developed a proprietary SMS program designed for maintenance organizations, sized for small businesses and leveraged by the 900-strong repair station membership.

As an AEA member, your company may participate in the AEA SMS program AT NO CHARGE, however, training is mandatory.*

This program has been coordinated with the FAA and Transport Canada Civil Aviation, as well as discussions with the Australian government's Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the European Aviation Safety Agency for future acceptance.

* This training program is mandatory for a repair station's accountable manager or SMS coordinator (if designated) in order to enroll a repair station in the AEA SMS program. The training program will be available at the U.S. Central Regional Meeting next week in Dallas or at the AEA International Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nev., March 25-28, 2013.

AEA Scholarship Applications Available Online

The AEA Educational Foundation will award scholarships for the 2013-14 school year to students pursuing a career in avionics or aircraft maintenance, as well as students from AEA member companies. In addition, Universal Avionics is sponsoring a new scholarship available for the first time this year.


The foundation was created in 1990 to enhance, promote and secure the future of aviation and the AEA by furthering the education of students, technicians, members of the AEA and others as determined by aviation industry needs.


Since its inception, the AEA scholarship program has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships. Numerous awards are available, ranging from $1,000 to more than $35,000 each.


Requests for complete scholarship packages are available online at www.aea.net/scholarship. The deadline for returning applications is Feb. 15, 2013. Scholarships will be awarded during the 56th annual AEA International Convention & Trade Show, which takes place March 25-28, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nev.
