PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT

Arizona Emergency Medical Systems, Inc. (AEMS), along with the other Regions, has recently received $100,000 from the Arizona Department of Health Services, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma System.

The purpose of this funding is to provide paramedic education support for Central Region Rural Providers (fire departments/districts and transport agencies) in need. AEMS may retain a percentage of the funds to support administrative costs associated with the distribution of these funds.

In distributing these funds, AEMS supports an equitable, collaborative, and cooperative process. We will be employing our successful Provider Grant process from the past, where all those applying for funding will help AEMS determine who should receive the funds, based on a priority rating system. Our goal is to maximize the allotment of these funds so as many agencies as possible may receive some benefit.

The application process, which will include a needs assessment and acceptance of terms of agreement, will commence during the week of January 9 with an official announcement that will be emailed and published on the AEMS website.

Here is a Sampling of How Dues Benefit Your Organization and the Central Arizona Region:
  • Dues allow AEMS to implement an affordably priced EMS Odyssey conference (in its 23rd year), the EMS CE Fall Forum, and other education opportunities offered as part of our Functional Group meetings.

  • Dues support the development of the Red Book which provides protocols for the provision of pre-hospital care. When followed, these provide a level of liability protection for medical direction decisions.

  • Dues support interactive forums – including the Board, Functional Group and committee/task force processes – providing opportunities where all EMS and other healthcare professionals are invited to work collaboratively and cooperatively to improve and enhance EMS and impact public health issues.

  • Dues support AEMS continued advocacy, support, and facilitation of activities that promote higher standards of patient care and enhance the overall quality of EMS for the Central Arizona region.
  • Dues support the Categorization of hospitals which are used by first responders to make hospital destination decisions.
  • Dues help underwrite projects where AEMS receives sparse or, more often, NO State funding to reimburse our administrative costs, including our Aces of Hearts and Heart to Heart recognition awards.

  • Dues provide AEMS with the ability to communicate and connect with all Central Region EMS providers, hospitals, fire departments-districts, hospitals, and other agencies – through the website, email, mailings, meetings, etc.
  • The State of Arizona supports Regions that function as a coordinating agency, which links the various components of the EMS system. AEMS represents the Central Arizona Region on behalf of the State. Given the population and complexity of the Central Region, Dues help underwrite this undertaking which far exceeds the limited support from the State.
  • Participation in AEMS is required by the ADHS for any newly approved ambulance providers, as AEMS is the most relevant organization for EMS coordination, triage and transfer protocols.
