AESA's Annual Conference: Planning Survey
|
|
If you haven't already taken this survey,
please we need to hear from you!
We are working diligently on plans for the AESA Annual Conference in December. With the continuing uncertainty of in-person events in 2020, we are excited to share that we are strongly considering an option for virtual participation.
As someone who had attended an AESA conference in the past, we would love to get your feedback as we fine-tune this offering.
We hope you will take a few minutes to tell us your preferences for making our annual conference an experience that will be awesome, engaging, and convenient for you. We want to know what works for you in the virtual space, what timing is best, and which topics are most important to you right now.
The survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete. We appreciate your time and input.
The survey closes August 21, 2020. Thank you!

Entrepreneurial ESAs: How to Price with Confidence in an Uncertain Environment
AESA SEMINAR
August 19, August 26, September 2, 1-2:30 p.m.
EASTERN
Led by: Andy Pechacek and Doreen Marvin
|
|
Pricing is challenging when things are “normal." So how can you price with confidence in an environment that is characterized by so much uncertainty? The first step to confidence, in any environment, is understanding the underlying principles that create a firm foundation upon which to build. This series is designed to provide training in and practice applying fundamental principles which will guide you and allow you to price with confidence in any environment.
Session 1: PRICING FUNDAMENTALS
This interactive session introduces the fundamentals of pricing using ESA examples and interactive exercises to provide a hands-on experience. Learn how to properly identify the different costs associated with a product or service and how those costs should impact a good pricing model.
Session 2: PRICING FOR VIRTUAL SERVICES
This session will focus specifically on solutions to the challenges of pricing for services delivered virtually, not face-to-face. Whether the services are brand new or changed from in-person to remote delivery, you will learn various ways to structure your pricing models to preserve customer loyalty and protect your bottom line. Current examples of ESA practice will be provided.
Session 3: PRICING AND EXPERIMENTATION: OVERCOMING THE CHALLENGES
Bolstered with ESA examples, this session will address how to structure meaningful experiments that will inform you on the critical effect of pricing on program enrollment. You will learn how to conduct pricing experiments ethically in the public arena. Strategies will be provided for addressing challenges such as a limited number of customers or the fact that ESA customers communicate frequently with each other.

New Service of AESA: Business Strategy Framework
This framework is a powerful tool that will help your leaders assess new opportunities and evaluate existing services. The framework provides a consistent approach to strategic marketing or understanding what markets/services your organization should be in and why. The framework sets your team on the right path to discovering game changing insights about the services they are involved in by focusing on three specific areas with questions designed to encourage deeper thinking that will uncover previously unrecognized keys to success. The three key areas investigated in all options include:
· Customers: How to create value
· Competition: How to capture value
· Partners: How to deliver value
More information please contact Joan Wade, AESA Executive Director.
Basic Workshop – 2 options
Option 1: MIT Sloan School of Business Marketing professor Duncan Simester leads you through his 2-day Business Strategy Framework workshop. Dr. Simester has taught this same framework to scores of Fortune 500 companies around the world. Companies such as Cisco, Fidelity, Loreal and others use this training to help discover and develop new leaders within their organizations. Dr. Simester teaches this workshop in true MBA style using business cases and hands on work with real team projects to enhance the learning. This workshop is offered one time per year.
Business Strategy Framework (Virtual) Option 1
with Dr. Duncan Simester, PhD, Economics and Marketing Professor, MIT
April 26-30, 2021; 2- 4 p.m. (EST)
Option 2: ESA-centric Business Strategy Framework presented by AESA business experts. AESA offers the same basic workshop as Dr. Simester. The primary difference is that the presenters are not MIT professors but rather former ESA leaders, trained by Dr. Semester. In this format, the presenters rely on several real-life ESA examples to illustrate concepts rather than utilizing the business case approach. This workshop also incorporates hands on work with real team projects to enhance the learning experience.
Business Strategy Framework (Virtual) Option 2
Led by a team of AESA experts
October 20, 21, 27, 28, 2020; 2 - 5 pm (EST)

Get Involved in a National Movement
Artificial Intelligence for ESAs
October 5, 7, and 9, 2020
2-4 p.m.(EST)
|
Dr. Susan Leddick (PKR, Inc) is offering Principles of AI (Artificial Intelligence) for ESAs.
It will be led by Dr. Duncan Simester of MIT, who has for several years had an exclusive relationship with PKR for delivery of his workshop on Business Strategy Framework.
Last fall over 100 people from ESAs around the nation attended that workshop in Minneapolis. Dr. Simester has a deep understanding of ESAs and tailors his teaching accordingly.
This new workshop is the first of its kind for ESAs. During his last two public Business Strategy Framework workshops for ESAs, Duncan has added a segment on artificial intelligence and machine learning. During and beyond that short instructional unit, he has urged ESA leaders to educate themselves on this important issue.
PKR has taken up the challenge to initiate a national conversation among ESAs about what AI is and how it is likely to affect both ESA programming and ESA operations. (Indeed, it already is!) We began by publishing two extensive articles in AESA’s journal "Perspectives” in October and November, 2019. (Co-authored by Thomas Collins of Ohio and Susan Leddick, these papers are available for download on AESA’s website at https://www.aesa.us/blog/.) AESA will be assuming responsibility for the AI initiative after our October event, so you can look at this event as an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the national movement for understanding AI and managing its implications for ESAs.
Unlike some workshops that aim to present a set of tools that are to be “implemented” back in the shop, this one is more informational by design. The network of participants will have considerable influence in how AESA continues to support learning and shared practice on AI and machine learning in ESAs.
To register, send the names of your registrants and the contact information for invoicing to Susan Leddick at registration@pkrnet.com. PKR will invoice $640 for each registrant, a 20% discount from the original in-person registration fee. Thanks for your interest in this important event. COVID-19 doesn’t stop our learning, fortunately!
