Bart Worden Retires as Executive Director of the AEU



After 10 years at the AEU and many more as a significant contributor to the Ethical Culture movement, Bart Worden retired from his role as Executive Director with his last day at the helm being yesterday. Words can't express the gratitude that we have for Bart's contributions, efforts, and sacrifices throughout his successful tenure as Executive Director. For his final entry under our Bart's Blog column, Bart reflects on his time at the AEU and shares what comes next for our organization.

Event Name: How to Talk to Kids About the "Big Question"

Host: Westchester Community for Ethical Culture

After a fantastic appearance at this year's Ethical Education Workshop during Assembly, award-winning children's book author J.R. Becker is back! Joining us courtesy of our friends at the Westchester Community for Ethical Culture, J.R. will kickoff this event with a kids' book reading of Annabelle & Aiden: Worlds Within Us along with activities that your children will love! Next for just the adults (childcare will be provided), J.R. will share his insights on how he writes about the big questions about science, philosophy, and religion to kids. If you find yourself in the greater Westchester area, make sure to stop by for what will be a can't-miss event for the whole family!

Event Name: What's Hope Got To Do With It?

Check out this Sunday Platform from our friends at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture as they talk about their monthly HOPE Dinners and the tremendous impact it has on the community. Founded by Janine Deitz and Donna Roberts, the purpose of the HOPE Dinners was to foster hope and connections during the height of the AIDS crisis. As we find ourselves living through another pandemic, learn how these monthly get togethers can provide you with the community and inspiration we all need when living through tough times.

Event Name: From Felix Adler to Modern Ethical Humanism

Please join the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture and Leader-in-Training Louise Jett for a series of Platforms and workshops entitled “From Felix Adler to Modern Ethical Humanism.” The series will start in January and run into May. It is a new year and a great time for forging friendships reacquainting yourself with Ethical Humanism. Your participation will also help Louise complete her Leadership training with the National Leaders Council. We will begin by exploring the history of Ethical Culture before discussing Black history, the contribution of women in the movement, ethical creativity and modern Humanism. All of the events will take place on Zoom and of course, all are welcome to attend.

Shoutout to the New York Society for Ethical Culture for the extra attention they received as they promoted the importance of voting in the midterm elections in the form of 1.1 million Twitter users! Musician and Animal Rights Activist Moby posted a photo with NYSEC's banner as a backdrop for his plea to motivate his followers to do their civic duty and protect democracy in the process by voting.
