Universal Declaration of Human Rights Video Project

In honor of World Human Rights Day on December 10th, the American Ethical Union is seeking volunteers to read aloud the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights in their primary language or a language that they are fluent in. Our goal is to showcase the diversity of the Ethical Culture movement; that individuals of all ages, races, genders, and more are welcome here on what will be the 74th anniversary of the UDHR publication. With your help, we will create a multilingual oratory experience of the Declaration to be shared with Ethical Societies and educational institutions. If you are interested in reading the Declaration, in English or another language, please email communications@aeu.org indicating your interest and the language of your choice.

Society Spotlight

In this month's edition of Society Spotlight, we will be learning about the New York Society for Ethical Culture (NYSEC), courtesy of Janet Rose. Thanks Janet!

Society name: New York Society for Ethical Culture

Year it was founded: 1876

Current president: Liz Singer

What Ethical Culture means to your society:

"It means fulfilling the Mission of Deed Before Creed."

An example of what you're doing to address a key issue affecting your community:

"We have been participating in the Reclaim Our Vote campaign from Center For Common Ground since late March of 2020. With over 250 volunteer writers throughout Manhattan, we have packaged 85,000 postcards with addresses to voters in high suppression states such as Georgia, Texas, North Carolina and Florida and 50,000 for the Georgia run-off late in 2020. This year, we have packaged over 65,000 for the primaries and now to get out the vote in Texas, Georgia and Florida. Early voting and car ride info is provided with County specific information for the voler. We have also hosted three postcard writing events at NYSEC in April, August and September respectively."
