AFA's Free Lecture Series As part of its new lecture series, AFA will be holding a free “Alzheimer’s disease from A to Z” educational program on October 3 rd at Gurwin Jewish-Fay J. Lindner Residences, 50 Hauppauge Road in Commack, NY. Registration and breakfast will begin at 8:30 am, with the program following from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. The program, which is open to everyone, will provide information about the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, teach participants how they can communicate concerns and offer practical tips about preparing a road map for care. Free, confidential memory screenings will also be offered. Continuing education is available for licensed social workers through the program. Click here to register!

Alzheimer's Xplained Through Storytelling

AFA was delighted to work with  Medicine X  on a new Alzheimer’s awareness and educational tool. “Alzheimer’s Xplained” is based on the real-life story of a mother and son who have been touched by Alzheimer's. It reflects their experiences and advice to others.   Special thanks to actor Esai Morales  for sharing his family's story to help others and heighten Alzheimer’s awareness.

Caring for Caregivers

AFA worked with Family Features on a public service campaign to provide tips to family caregivers. The public service campaign ran in more than 800 media outlets across the country, including the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.   T he content included advice on avoiding caregiver burnout, managing stress and the importance of getting help with caregiving.

What a year it's been!

Member Spotlight

Bluestone Physician Services is a Minnesota-based organization which brings health care directly to residents in assisted living communities, memory care, and group home communities. AFA and Bluestone Physician Services are joining together once again to offer complimentary memory screenings at the Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul, MN. The fair runs through September 3rd.   Todd Stivland, MD, CEO of Bluestone Physician Services said, "The Minnesota State Fair is a great way to reach a large number of people. Two million people from all walks of life attend the fair each year. Last year we were able to administer free memory screening tests to 4,000 people, but just as important, we provided information and education to approximately 20,000 people!"
