CapeFlyer Festival Seat packages are available to individuals for a discounted $55 and includes Festival Seating and round-trip train transportation from any station on the CapeFlyer route. Even enjoy a strolling musician on board the train on the arriving trip!

Arts Foundation is Seeking Auction Items

Auction The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod is seeking items to auction at our upcoming benefit receptions. Funds raised through these auctions will benefit the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod's grants program which awards funding for arts related projects to individual artists, organizations and schools across Barnstable County.

We are especially seeking gift certificates, artwork, tickets, classes or unique experiences. No item is too big or too small.

Melody Tent: Melissa Etheridge and Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell

Melody Tent Melissa Etheridge, July 11, 8 pm: Melissa has been a core Island Records artist since the release of her critically-acclaimed RIAA double-platinum debut album. She won her first Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal for "Ain't It Heavy" (from  Never Enough). Her success has led her to receive the Songwriter of the Year honor at the ASCAP Pop Awards in 1996, and the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2007.

Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, July 14, 8 pm: Emmylou's career includes 12 Grammy Awards and more than 15 million albums sold worldwide. A steadfast supporter of roots music and a skilled interpreter of compelling songs, she also has been associated with a diverse array of collaborators. Her most recent charting album Old Yellow Moon was created with Rodney Crowell. With special guests The Devil Makes Three.

This exhibition includes the work of national mosaic artists who have stamped their marks in the field of contemporary mosaics. The work of this eclectic group not only represents a cross section of styles from abstract to portraiture, but also demonstrates the diversity of materials used in contemporary mosaic making.

Laurence Young lives and paints in Provincetown year-round, and his colorful oil-and-wax painting style grew out of his experience working with local masters. The work of architect-turned-painter Paul Kelly features structured compositions of Provincetown street scenes, and he recently began a series of oils of the recently razed modernist bathhouse at Herring Cove Beach.

Julie Heller East presents Mary Giammarino and Robert Dente, a show of two contemporary Provincetown artists, from July 12 - 25, with an opening reception on July 12, 7 - 9 pm.

In Mary's lush and color-drenched oils, houses line dappled lanes and boats bob on sparkling water, light plays with shape. Through watercolor, monoprints and monotypes, Robert focuses on the ever-changing quality of light on the worn surfaces of seaside buildings.

Jane will create a pen & ink floral drawing with watercolor. Weedie will be demonstrating the art of creating Zentangles, which are pen & ink designs usually done in a circular format and including one or more inspirational words. Both artists will share their latest works.

Addison Art Gallery presents the exhibit opening of Paul Schulenburg: One Man Show on July 13, 5:30 - 7:30 pm.

Paul Schulenburg is an internationally collected artist whose work has shown in the Hopper House Museum, twice in solo shows at the Cape Cod Museum of Art, and in many group exhibitions at CCMA, Provincetown Art Association and Museum, and Cahoon Museum of American Art. He has appeared over a dozen times in respected national art publications including on the cover of American Art Collector. Schulenburg is a first place prize-winning Copley artist, a juried member of Oil Painters of America and was commissioned by the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to create a portrait of museum trustee Eliot Forbes. This show is featured in the July, 2013 issue of American Art Collector magazine.

Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill presents Life-Sized Figurative Paintings with Quirky Portrait Paintings, a new faculty exhibit, July 16 - 26, with an opening reception on July 18, 4 - 6 pm.

The show is set to feature Daphne Confar, Adam Lowenbein and Elaine Smollin, who each bring a unique expression to their inquisitive cast of characters, channeling everything from the Greek and Roman classical to the whimsical pop celebrity to just regular folks in the  paintings. Each artist has created a vast world of figures, faces and bodies.

East Meeting West: Asian Screen Exhibition at The Community of Jesus

Community of Jesus The Community of Jesus presents East Meeting West: Asian Screen Exhibition from July 16 - 31.

The Community of Jesus will offer a glimpse into the making of nine Asian folding screens commissioned for its retreat center. The collaborative nature of this project brings together the traditions of Chinese calligraphy and painting, the making of Japanese Shoji, and biblical texts. The four artists who worked on this project share about their process and their teacher, master painter Ma Qingxiong.

Johnston installs a series of winter paintings on un-stretched canvas combining the processes and materials of drawing and painting. Mitchell's paintings explore networks that are more intuitive than factual. For Mitchell the artist's journey, rather than the final outcome, is the incentive to create. Collaborative artists Tim Winn & Zehra Khan create art installations and performances, but consider drawing to be their primary medium.

This new exhibit highlights over a decade, between 1920 and 1933, of a time that drew in Cape Cod sailors and captains, Coast Guard seaman and officers, gangsters and code breakers.

Castle Hill Marc Doty, July 16, 7:30 pm: A recipient of the National Book Award for Poetry, Doty is the author of eight books of poems and five volumes of nonfiction prose. Chatham Chorale Presents Salute to America

Chatham Chorale The Chatham Chorale, lead by Music Director Joseph Marchio, presents Salute to America, a concert of patriotic and popular music, on the Hyannis Village Green on July 13, 6 pm. Donations will be collected for the Food Pantry.

Screening of Pearl Harbor: One Last Goodbye at the Cultural Center

Cultural Center The Cultural Center presents a screening of Pearl Harbor: One Last Goodbye on July 17, 7:30 pm.

Producer Liz Watkins presents her film about six men who, 70 years later, return to Hawaii to relive the memories of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Ages 89-93, these Pearl Harbor survivors say "One Last Goodbye" to the friends they lost on December 7, 1941. This timeless film was recorded during the 70th Remembrance of the Attack on Pearl Harbor in December 2011. In the 2 months previous, a camera crew followed the survivors and support crew to over 20 fundraisers for this historic trip.

Chatham Drama Guild Auditions for Bus Stop 

CDG Chatham Drama Guild is holding auditions for William Ingle's classic Bus Stop on July 14 & 15, 6:30 pm.

Bus Stop is a drama, with romantic and some comedic elements. It is set in a diner in rural Kansas, about 25 miles west of Kansas City, Missouri during a snowstorm from which bus passengers must take shelter. Roles are available for 5 men ages 20-60, 3 women ages mid teens-late 40's. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Production dates are October 11 - 27.

The use of color harmonies, color temperatures, textures and composition will be taught as ways to make the still life painting create visual interest.

Acrylic Transfer Workshop with Joe Diggs, July 16, 6 - 8:30 pm: Explore various techniques in acrylic transferring photo copied images. These techniques are an interesting way to use photo sources as a reference and create unusual works of art.

Drawing Workshop with Suzanne Packer, July 23 - 25, 1 - 4 pm: Experiment with new ways to draw. There will be objects to draw with lots of instruction on how to see, how to draw, and how to put all into a good composition.

Non-Traditional Acrylic Painting, July 25, 6:30 - 8:30 pm: Learn how to create textures and depth with acrylic paints using non-traditional methods in this fast-paced workshop.

All supplies are included and all levels are invited with no experience needed. Beginners are introduced to various materials and techniques, experienced artists can enjoy experimenting and trying new mediums or techniques. Workshops in this series are taught by artist Chris O'Dell Ferguson.

"Barbaric Yawp" Poetry Workshop with Mart�n Espada at Castle Hill

Castle Hill Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill will host a Poetry Workshop with Mart�n Espada from July 22 - 26, 2 - 4 pm.

Martin has published more than fifteen books as a poet, editor, essayist and translator. His latest collection of poems, The Trouble Ball, is the recipient of the Milt Kessler Award, a Massachusetts Book Award and an International Latino Book Award. His previous collection, The Republic of Poetry, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Other books of poems include Alabanza, A Mayan Astronomer in Hell's Kitchen, and Imagine the Angels of Bread. He has received numerous awards and fellowships.

Morning Singing Workouts with John Yankee

Morning Sings John Yankee, Artistic Director of the Falmouth Chorale, is leading Morning Sings at John Wesley United Methodist Church now - August 1, 8 - 8:45 am Tuesdays & Thursdays.

The sessions are open to all ages, skill levels and voice parts. Participants can attend any or all of the sessions. These sings are characterized as "fun singing workouts" featuring warm-ups, vocalizing, tuning exercises, rounds, and songs with ad lib harmonizing. Everything is taught by rote.

Photography Center of Cape Cod Calendar Contest

The Photography Center of Cape Cod is holding a 2014 Calendar Contest with a submission deadline of August 9.

Submit a photo that depicts a season of the year and is shot on Cape Cod. The twelve best images of the four categories - winter, spring, summer, fall - will be chosen to be included in the calendar. The winning images will also be hung as part of a special exhibit in the Cape Cod Art Association gallery in November. The calendar will be available for sale in the gift shop, and on the website.

Original Works Sought for Fall Series of Play With your Food

CCCC Cape Cod Community College's Department of Arts and Communication is now accepting submissions for the Fall 2013 "Play With Your Food" series. The theatre program will continue its tradition of featuring local playwrights' original scripts for workshop readings on four consecutive Friday evenings in late September and early October. Closing date for submissions is August 15 and finalists will be notified by September 15.

Submissions may be full-length, one-act, or short plays suitable for simple "reading" style presentation. Works-in-progress, unpublished works, and works that can be presented with minimal costume, lighting and scenic elements are particularly encouraged.

Cataumet Schoolhouse Art Show

Cataumet Schoolhouse This summer the Cataumet Schoolhouse Preservation Group is planning the first annual Schoolhouse Arts and Crafts Show on August 22 - 25, noon - 5 pm each day.

Cape residents are invited to exhibit and sell original fine art and craft work. A percentage of the proceeds will go to the Schoolhouse. Artists do not need to be present the entire time. The Cataumet Schoolhouse Preservation Group promotes cultural and social events at the restored one-room schoolhouse, built in 1894.

"Positively Different" Cape Cod Porch Photo Contest

CBCC The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod has launched "Positively Different" Cape Cod Porch Photo Contest with a submission deadline of September 2.

Cape Codders may submit a photo of their favorite Cape Cod porch, either of the porch itself or the view from it. The winning photographs will be featured on the Bank's Instant Issue Debit Cards and 2014 Community Calendar. In addition, the winning photographers will receive cash prizes.

Truro Library Truro Public Library presents a talk titled The Liaison of George Sand and Frederic Chopin, by Ruth Spencer, on July 16, 6:30 pm.

The romance between Chopin and George Sand is among the most famous of 19th century European relationships. The presentation will explore their individual histories, their years together, and their lives following their breakup. The lecture is illustrated with readings from letters, diaries, and autobiographies as well as photos of locations in France and Majorca where the couple lived.
