Learn More About Artist Tessa Morgan!

Artist Statement

"All my work involves integrating surface decoration and pottery form, primarily using sgraffito technique. Images adorning my pots are inspired by the marine life surrounding Cape Cod as well as whimsical creatures of the imagination. Many of my pots tell little snapshot stories; cats pouncing on yarn, mermaids playfully chasing fish or serenading one another. For me, each  pot is like a painting that depicts a world that is small and separate, yet part of our larger perceptual realm".

Tessa M organ was born and raised in Washington DC and taught to throw as teenager. She had been drawing all her life, so it was second nature to carve designs into colored slip on her earliest pots. She majored in ceramics at Connecticut College and in 1983 set up a small studio in Woods Hole. In 1993 she received a BFA in illustration from Massachusetts College of Art and has since enjoyed a dual career as potter and illustrator. Her children's books include Do Whales Ever...? and Do sharks Ever...?. and she  has coll aborated on  various projects with scientists in Woods   Hole. She opened the Flying Pig Pottery in 1999 and has been in many shows  on the Cape.

Images of her work can be found at her website:Flying Pig Pottery as well as on her Facebook page.
