RADIO CONTROL SYSTEMS
Radio control systems are becoming more popular in the overhead material handling industry and offer many features that traditional pendant controls are not capable of providing.
Radio control systems can be specially programmed to increase flexibility and safety for large material handling systems. In systems where there are multiple cranes/hoists being used simultaneously by one operator, an A-B-Both system may be implemented. A selector switch on the radio transmitter allows the crane operator to operate each crane individually or both cranes simultaneously based on the lifting needs.
Pitch & Catch Function
Another safety feature that can be programmed in a radio control system is called a Pitch - Catch function. This function is often used in applications of long runways, or differing elevations by passing the control of the crane from one transmitter to another.
Additionally, there are many different styles of hand held transmitters to choose from. The
Flex EX2 radio transmitter by Magnetek is a traditional style handheld transmitter, available in 4, 6, 8 & 12 button options.
The Flex VUE by Magnetek is similar, and includes a graphic display that keeps the operator informed of system status diagnostics at all times, including battery life, signal strength, and warning symbols.
The Flex VUE transmitter can also be programmed to include options such as weight being lifted, and logic for controlling safety features on below the hook lifting devices. A bellybox style transmitter, like the MLTX2 by Magenetek, is another option of controls for applications that require multiple levers, joysticks or toggle controls. AFE Crane also offers a detachable spare control pendant which can be switched, based on the job type, operator preference, or as a back-up due to equipment damage or malfunction.
