AFE 2017 Fire Congress Updates

Don't Delay, Abstracts Are Due Soon!

August 15: Deadline for Oral Presentation and Fire Circle Abstracts
September 15: Deadline for Poster Presentation Abstracts and Attached Meetings
There are still several ways you can participate directly in the 2017 Fire Congress program! We are accepting proposals for Oral Presentations and Interactive Fire Circle Discussions until Tuesday, August 15-just 4 days away! Proposals for Poster Presentations and Attached Meetings will be accepted until September 15.

Registration Notes      

Regular registration will be open until October 31; after that late registration rates will apply. We recommend that you register soon, as the field trips and several workshops are
available on a first come basis and have limited seating. Don't end up on the waitlist...Register soon to secure your spot!!

Remember, AFE Members receive a discounted registration rate. To receive this discount, please register with the email address you use for your AFE member account. To join or renew your membership before you register,  click here.
Calling All Photographers

If you love taking photos while in the field, consider submitting your favorite fire ecology image for the AFE Photo Contest, which is being held in conjunction with the 201 7 Fire Congress. Winning photos will be showcased at the 2017 Fire Cong ress and w ill be included in conference materials (e.g., premiums, program, screensavers) and AFE materials (e.g., websites, publications, displays). You may submit your photos using our online submission form . The deadline for submissions is September 15, 2017.

Help spread the word about this special contest-we are hoping to get submissions from far and wide!  
Booking Your Room

The 2017 Fire Congress will be held at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace Resort in Orlando, Florida. This resort is directly adjacent to Disney Springs and offers many amenities. Room nights will be offered at government per diem rates. It's not too early to book your hotel room. If you call instead of booking online, please make sure to say you are part of the "AFE Fire Congress" Room Block.   

Moderators and Volunteers  

If you can serve as a moderator for a session at the Fire Congress, please contact Tom DeMeo at to let him know. Moderator duties include introducing the speakers and keeping everyone on time.
Students can get reduced fees when they volunteer for work shifts at the conference. Simply choose the "student volunteer" option during registration, and we'll get in touch with you.

And More!
We can always use more help, from stuffing registration bags on Monday and helping at the registration desk to making sure the presentations are preloaded on laptops in each breakout room. Please contact Annie Oxarart at if you can assist during the conference.
