AFHS Families,
Can you believe that none of our current AFHS students were born when the movie Elf was released for the first time? This year is the 20th anniversary of one of my favorite holiday classics. It is mostly a silly story, but one enduring lesson from the film sticks with me. Anyone, no matter where they come from or how different they are, can make a difference for good. We have so many students who might feel like cotton-headed ninny muggins here, but their unique stories, perspectives, and personalities help elevate the experience for all of us. Remember, "the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear".
Regards,
Peter Glahn
AFHS Principal

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY:
Be part of the magic this holiday season and join us for the AFHS Sub for Santa fundraiser hosted by American Fork High School! We're committed to spreading joy within our community, and all donations raised will directly benefit students in need at American Fork High School. Together, let's make a difference! Throughout the fundraiser, all generous contributions will go towards providing Christmas for families in need at our school. Every donation counts, so let's come together and create a memorable holiday for those who might otherwise go without. Thank you for being part of this wonderful cause!
Family #1: There are not enough beds in the home for everyone to have their own bed. Guardians sleep on the coach.
Family #2: Food scarcity and each kid only has one pair of pants and shoes.
Family #3: This student is battling chronic illness and medical debt.
Family #4: Mom lost her job and the family was evicted. The student picked up a job to help out.
Family #5: This student is currently homeless, living with a friend, and is paying all of the bills.
Family #6: This is a large family that is a recent single-parent household struggling with food and housing insecurity and a medical condition.
Family #7: Immigrant family, new to the country, and a single–parent household.
Family #8: Student supports her family with her job. She works every day, so they can eat and afford rent.
Family #9: Immigrant family with unstable employment.
Family #10: Recent single-parent household because of a traumatic situation. Student is trying to remodel the small townhouse to work better for the family.
Family #11: This immigrant family needs the basics. The student lives with a sibling as their parents are in another country.
Family #12; Refugee family whose parents are still searching for employment.
Even though it shows that we have met our goal, there is so much more of a need than what we can share. So please click on this LINK to donate. Thank you!

ORCHESTRA:
The AFHS combined orchestras performed on Tuesday, Dec 12, 2023. These 90 orchestra students played beautiful carols from the Charles Dickens era and had a sing-along with the audience. In honor of working with
Tran-Siberian Orchestra founder, Mark Wood, the orchestra performed A Mad Russian Christmas and Wizards in Winter complete with Electric Bass, Guitar, Drum set, and Strings. We had to honor traditional Orchestral themes by playing Allegro Moderato by
Saint-Sean’s. The students were amazing and it was a beautiful concert!!
There were some after-concert silly photos with Seniors.

CHAMBER ORCHESTRA:

ENGLISH 11 HONORS:
English 11 Honors class just completed a Mock Trial on Frankenstein. Each student in the class had a role to play in the trial whether it was the defense team, the prosecution team, the judge, a jury member, or a witness. On Friday, students spent the class period putting Frankenstein's creature on trial for the murders in the novel. They did an AMAZING job and really showed off their research and textual analysis skills during the trial. One of the pictures is Robbie Stoddard giving his closing argument for the prosecution and the other photo is Kameya Dement showing off her incredible witness mask that symbolized the character witness she was portraying from the novel.
