American Fork High School

Fight Song

Dear Old AF High,

Yes, we will love you ‘til we die.

Our banners bright, of red and white,

Will be a beacon through the night.

Dramatic arts, and ball and track,

We’ll always bring the honors back.

We’ll sing our praises to the sky,

We’ll always fight for AF High.

ADMINISTRATOR'S MESSAGE

Hello Cavemen,

What a school year 2022-2023 has been. As we say goodbye to our senior class, we are reminded of how fast time really goes. As they get ready to graduate a week from today I just wanted to let them and all of us remember this quote by Mandy Hale, “Be good to people. You will be remembered more for your kindness than any level of success you could possibly attain.”

Personally, I will be moving on with this graduating class to another school next year. I have loved my time at American Fork High School. I am so grateful and have learned and grown so much. One thing that I know is there are amazing people here. We have amazing students, teachers, counselors, custodians, advocates, secretaries, paras, parents, and administrators. American Fork is great because of the “good people” who are kind and care about each other. Each of us will have the opportunity in the coming years to graduate and move on from American Fork High School. How blessed and better we are to have been given this opportunity.

PROUD to be a Caveman!

Glen Vawdrey Retiring

We would like to announce the retirement of our beloved Lead Custodian, Glen Vawdrey. He has kept American Fork HS spotless, running flawlessly and always willing to help anyone who needs it. He is very loved and appreciated, and we will miss him, but wish him well in his future adventures!

(We may or may not have caused him to pull his hair out)

Attendance - Excusing Absences

The Attendance Secretary will only excuse the previous 2 weeks of absences. For anything prior to that, please use the online parent excuse in Skyward. We do not excuse tardies or truancies.

On the AFHS website homepage under Helpful Resources (below the slider) click on Attendance and scroll to the bottom for a short tutorial.

If you need help with your Skyward password please call the main office.

YEARBOOKS

There are only a few Yearbooks left. When they are GONE, they are gone! Purchase one at the Finance Office or on MySchoolFees today for $65. To check if you have purchased one, search for your student number HERE.

School Lunch Fees

Our school year is winding down, don't forget to pay off your student's lunch balances with Nutrition Services.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

Our wonderful PTA spoiled the teachers on teacher appreciation week!

Photo evidence:

We have the most amazing PTA that goes above and beyond! We appreciate their service and making our teachers feel appreciated!

FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT RECOGNITION

The PTA was happy to recognize foreign exchange student Leonie Brunot with the “I’m Growing” scholarship—a $550 check to use at the student’s discretion.

The “I’m Growing” scholarship is designed by our school’s PTA for students who show strides in their schooling and learning—yet may not have the resources others have. Leonie wrote a short essay explaining her growth and her plans to use the money for college. Congratulations!

Reminders: You are not able to drive up separately. Lagoon's hours that day are 9:30 AM-4:00 PM. The Beach Waterpark will not be available. Season passes are accepted this day but those with season passes should still travel with the school and need to meet let Mrs. Beckstead (room 230) know to get on the list. Please watch your level of noise on the train. Be respectful of commuters.

SENIOR GRAD NIGHT

"Senior Grad Night" will be held May 24 from 11 pm - 2:00 am at Provo Beach Resort. Students need to be in the South Parking Lot at 10 pm and students arrive back at 2:30 am. STUDENTS CANNOT DRIVE THEMSELVES! Please make sure your student arrives on time to catch the bus. Pizza and drinks will be provided. The cost is $40 until May 22 and then it increases to $45. PARENT CHAPERONES ARE NEEDED!

The PTSA is looking for parents to help chaperone the grad night party. Those who chaperone will need to be fingerprinted at the ASD main office. Please schedule a fingerprinting appointment by clicking here. If you have already been fingerprinted you do not need to do it again.

Come join the fun. Please contact Jackie Borget at jackie.borget@gmail.com if you are interested in helping out.

PLEASE ALERT YOUR SENIORS

On July 1, 2023, the student accounts for seniors will be inactivated, archived, and eventually deleted. We realize that over the years students may have accumulated a lot of work and materials tied to these accounts. In order to keep any and all of the materials currently stored in their alpinesd.org Google Drive they may use Google Takeout to save an external archive of your files. They will need to follow the steps included here to download their Google account data to a hard drive or external flash drive. This needs to be completed before July 1 in order to avoid losing access to all of their work.

Cap and Gowns

Cap and Gowns will be available for pick up starting in the afternoon of May 19. All fees will need to be paid before picking up Cap and Gowns.

Link to Stream Graduation- We would rather see you in person, but if you can’t make it, or want to send this to your relatives who are dying to watch, our graduation ceremony will be live streamed here.

Graduation Photos

If Seniors want graduation photos in their cap and gown with the iconic AF sign, those letters will be available south of the school for photos this Friday from 3-8 PM. You might want to consider this since there will not be a professional photographer at graduation and students will not be allowed onto the floor after the graduation to take photos. BYU staff need to set up for another event immediately after, so all photos should be taken outside.

SENIOR - FINAL TRANSCRIPTS

Please come to the Counseling Office and fill out a Final Transcript Request Form. Beginning Monday, June 5 they will be either emailed or printed in a physical form depending on what you requested. Physical copies can be picked up in the Registrar's Office, Room #1, from 8:00 am until Noon in June and in the Front Office during July.

GRADUATION

For those students graduating that missed the graduation assembly held on April 25, watch this VIDEO. Also, please print and read this information before graduation so they are prepared for their big day HERE.

CAREER TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION (CTE)

American Fork High School and other Alpine Entrepreneurship classes invited teens from across the state to join them for an afternoon Teen Entrepreneur Expo at Robinson Park Saturday the 13. Even with the rain, it was a great day for experimenting and learning through hands-on projects. Students created a variety of booths. Some students already have been running lawn care, car detailing, fashion, accessories, art, design, and other businesses. Or some students were starting from scratch and invented water bottle accessory prototypes, sticker designs, t-shirt sales, treats, waffle trucks, flavored sodas, wood turning, and so many other things. Clients came and walked the open-air market and students interacted with potential clients in a way that can’t be replicated by only studying theory or looking at what others have done. Sponsors included U First Credit Union, Kneaders, Alpine CTE, the city of American Fork, and 100 other families that helped get the booths ready. It was a great way to wrap up the semester. KSL and miss American Fork even dropped by.

CHOIR TOUR 2023 TO SAN DIEGO

The American Fork High School Orchestras have had a stellar year in 2022-23. We have represented AFHS in Allstate Orchestra, Concerts, The Masterworks Festival, Region and State Solo/Ensemble, Region and State Orchestra Festivals, and a Tour to San Diego California. Each of these Festivals and performances have received Superior Ratings and amazingly positive reviews. These students took 1st place on the Tour in our Division against 7 other orchestras nationally. We represented excellence in the Allstate Performances as well as in Solo work and Ensemble efforts. We accompanied the District Masterwork Choir with representatives from AFHS as well as other High Schools in the District. The orchestra and the choirs were amazing and the audiences were excited. We finished the year last evening with an amazing concert featuring Themes from Movies and popular works from Musicals, Box office Hits and amazing Classics. The amazing students even performed as a "Flash Mob" with the Junior High Orchestras playing Pirates of the Caribbean. The younger students were thrilled with the outcome and so was the audience. It's been a great pleasure working with these amazing students. It gives great hope for things to come!
