Principal's Message

Just For You
Mighty Things
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
~ Theodore Roosevelt
Keeping the status quo is often our safe place, or our “existing state” as it translates from Latin. But is that all we want from life? Is that what we teach? How to simply exist from one day to the next? Of course not. We teach our children to advocate for themselves, to take educated risks, to enjoy successes and learn from failures. Victory isn't a one-way street. It is peppered with failure and defeat, and it is those failures that serve to reinforce how glorious triumph feels.
With something to think about . . .

Sincerely,
Daniel P. Weishar

AFHS Wins Chapter of the Year at DECA State Competition February 21st and 22nd.

Students from across the state convened in the Salt Palace last Thursday and Friday. DECA is a student marketing organization where students compete in everything from marketing, to entrepreneurship, to sports and entertainment marketing. Alec Atkinson earned second and Kylee Susov earned third in their respective events qualifying them to compete in Nationals which will be held in Orlando the last weekend of March. Many other students also made it high into the final round of competition. We had students placing everywhere from 2nd to 12th.

One of the highlights of the competition was the Chapter of the Year event. To be eligible to even present to the judges the chapter had to meet certain requirements with membership, charity, community involvement, and social media, earning "gold level" status. AFHS earned that gold level status and did an amazing job presenting to the 6 judges on the panel regarding the way DECA and marketing runs at AFHS.

The students earned a perfect score in that event, winning first place, edging out every other DECA chapter in the state of UT for the title of Utah Chapter of the Year.

It was an emotional weekend and we are very proud of DECA's accomplishments this year.

Congrats AFHS DECA Marketing students!
